CHAPTER 1
TWENTY YEARS LATER
Dan was now the predecessor of Silvertone Advertising Agency after the unexpected death of his father twenty years ago; and the passing of his mother two years after required another adjustment for him to endure. A few years later he married Florence Hammonton the union produced two lovely children, Mary, and Alan. The family remained living at old mansion, because Dan’s father preferred for the home to pass through the family line.
Even though the structure had an antiquated presence beyond the young couple style; however, with the hiring of an expert trendy decorator refurbished the home which was met with approved expectations.
Dan’s wife returned to work after the second child was born, then later after retiring, worked reduced hours at the law firm. The young adults attended college out of state, after schooling Mary became a lawyer, and Alan was an engineer.
Dan could still remember how his father would handpick employees sternly determining that the staff must fit the personality of the company, and further advising that every company had a presence. The reason for Mr. Silverstone’s exceptional success was due to his special protocol of he ran his business …thereby conducting his business with honor and integrity; and by treating employees and clients with respect, another essential component was by providing quality services. These factors have launched Silverton Advertising Agency to accomplish prestige and success for many years.
The saga continues twenty years later displaying the success as well as the complications of Silverton Advertising Agency. And the apparent challenges of the office workers and witnessing how faith and determination could heal the most difficult situations.
After many years only a few employees remained working for Silvertone Advertising Agency; while others retired or died, and some moved on.
Decades ago Bob was an isolated young man who worked in the editorial department, and he was considered by some as being an extrovert and weird, nevertheless over time this assumed persona changed. Bob is well established and is now happily married to Carol, and they are the proud parents of two grown children.
When Bob and Carol married they resided in the home of his youth, but after the death of his parents; however, years later they purchased another home because of too many memories of his decease brother. Although the memories of his parents and the family together were good in the early days that is when his brother Buddy was alive; but since his death there were unpleasant memories that must remain in the past in order to move on.
Bob was grateful for the love and support that his parents provided in dealing with the death of his twin brother, which was over twenty five years ago. They tried very hard to help him live a normal life, and not to worry about what happen to his brother Buddy.
Many years later he could still remember his twin brother deadly fall off of the Majestic Mountains in Canada, and how he blamed himself for not being there near him when he fell… Afterwards, Bob found it hard to exist without however with psychological counseling, which over the years at least gave him an incentive to live.
Acknowledging after Buddy’s death … he could still remember a few days later Buddy’s spirit visited him in the bedroom clearly telling him not to worry because he was happy in heaven, and brother told him to enjoy life, and if it made him feel better; then he could name his first born male child after him. And that is exactly what Bob did…He named his son, little Buddy. And he named his daughter Caroline.
Both children graduated college and had careers. Bob’s wife Carol thought how time flies, realizing that when you blink another year have already passed and before you know it, ten or twenty years has gone just that fast.
Carol’s father is a minister, and now is ninety years old, residing at White Dove Nursing Home; her mother passed away years ago, she visits her father on Sundays and brings him a home cook meal. As Coral and Bob sat at the dinner table… B ob said, You know Carol life is really good, but adapting to changes has always been the difficult part for us all.
Coral replied. Bob, I think that ever since you retired years ago, and after your heart surgery, you seem to regard yourself as just an old man. Honey, you’re only in your late sixties, and you’re working part-time, its good to admit that life has been good for us… After all, you are in good shape, and you do eat right.
Bob stated, I know dear, life is good, and that’s with the ups and downs. You know God promised us to pray for our daily bread, meaning that we are not promise forever, at least, not in this earth; we just have to appreciate each day as it comes and realize that God’s word in the Bible is true. Well, come to think of it, by my working at the Spruce Employment Service as a recruiter does has its benefits, and the pay is great, nevertheless being around those young kids does make me feel younger sometimes; but by the same token, there are times when I do feel real old being around all that youth and energy, and that alone, could make anyone feel old. You know I really miss the good old days at Silvertone Advertising Agency, where many of us employees grew old together working for the same company together for so many years, and there is something special about growing old together. I think about the company sometimes and the last time I checked a few years ago, Silverstone’s stock has increased, they must be doing something right. I miss the editorial department, and the company travel as well.
Carol replied, You really enjoyed working for Silverton Advertising Agency. I agree you practically grown up working for that company, your parents would be proud of your progress and how you finished ministry school, and have taken over the ministry at my Dad’s church,
Bob replied, Yes, I think they would have been pleased with how I faired along. Carol dear, are you visiting your father at the nursing home this weekend, I asked because I would like to go with you. I brought your father a new chess set and I know he would love; it’s one of those dual sets where he could play checkers or Chess. I hope that he still remembers how to play, if not, I will teach him, and then I turn around and beat him.
They both laugh.
Carol said, I knew you would try something like that. You do know that our son Buddy should be returning home soon from the army; maybe we should prepare a celebration…perhaps we will take him to that little Italian restaurant that he likes so much, we will invite his fiancé, and have a nice big cake and ice cream afterwards at home.
Bob said, "I can’t wait for Buddy home coming, it will be in about two weeks, I tell you that I’m certainly counting down the days, and yes, I think that it’s an excellent idea of taking Buddy and his fiancé out to dinner, I will buy the cake though. I want the baker to inscribe something special on the cake. And of course, we will have ice cream as well.
Carol went up stairs and knocked on her daughter’s bedroom door, and after being offered in asked her daughter how her new job was was working out.
Caroline replied, Mother, the job is okay, but wish that I had a little more autonomy; I mean it seems as though we are being bombarded everyday with meetings and the boss is always over our shoulders. Anyway, Mom the salary is great.
Carol said, Just give the position time, because things have a way of working out that is when you allow the proper timing. Are you wearing that dress tonight on your date with Robert?
Caroline stated, Yes I am wearing this dress, what’s wrong with it… Do you think the dress is too revealing with the low neckline?
Yes, I think your dress may need a little needle and thread, just to close the neck-line up a bit.
Carol replied.
Okay, Mother, but I really think that it’s not showing much skin, but I’ll sew the neck-line up a bit, just to please you. You know mother, I wanted to speak with you about something…I was thinking about getting my own apartment in a few weeks, I’ve noticed a real sweet little place not too far from here, I have arranged an appointment with the realtor to see the place on Friday, would you like to come with me?
Caroline said.
Carol stated to her daughter, "I know that you are grown up now, but leaving the nest is hard for every parent, especially with females. Of course, I would love to see the place with you, and thank you for considering inviting me. I would like to also mention that even though you will be on your own, you do know how to conduct yourself with the opposite sex… It seems that females do have to guard themselves more, I say this because sometimes young adults make inappropriate decisions and don’t consider the consequences. You know honey, I am still trying to get over the fact that your brother is serving in
