    ––––––––

Why do they feel the need to put me in this article as if I’m some superhero? I skimmed over the article in the Elmer Point Chronicle, our local newspaper. "Demi Hagen, better known as The Locator. I looked across the kitchen table at my dad. Who came up with that name?"

He shrugged. I talked to the lead journalist, Andrea Bruce, this morning. She wants to do a sit-down interview with you.

I bet it’s Andrea. She’s the one that wrote the articles so she had to be the one that started calling me The Locator. Right? I sipped my orange juice.

I don’t know, Demi. The only thing I know is that I’m proud of you. My dad smiled.

I almost rolled my eyes but I knew that he was serious. "I’m not doing an interview with Andrea Bruce. I’m not a hero or some superhuman or some...something. I’m just a normal girl."

    My dad cocked his brow.

    "Okay...so I’m not normal. But Dad...come on. I’m not a hero."

He raised his coffee mug to his lips. In some people’s eyes...you are. He took a sip.

I knew my dad enjoyed the attention I was getting for helping others with my gift. He’d always said that he was proud of me but I’m sure it was because he was my dad and it’s probably some rule in the parenting handbook that you must tell your kids that you’re proud of them even if they hadn’t done anything proud-worthy. But now when he said it...it actually meant something different. I’d actually done something proud-worthy. Unfortunately, the pride train stopped with him. I wasn’t so sure if pride was what I felt right now. Sometimes I missed the old days. Surprising but true.

What do you think mom would say if she was still alive?

My dad looked at me as if surprised I’d asked. Honestly, she would be over the moon for you. She would always say that her baby girl was special. Boy she had no idea just how special. His eyes got a little teary.

The love for my mother was so evident. I could only hope to find true love like that in my lifetime.

What are your plans for the day? Dad asked.

Work a few hours at Not Forgotten and I need to go visit Mom’s grave. We haven’t gone in a few months and with all the new stuff going on...it’s time I go to talk with her. Do you want me to wait for you?

He gave me an apologetic look. Sorry, baby girl but I won’t be able to go with you today. But next weekend we can go together.

No problem. Next weekend it is.

    Is that it for you?

That’s it for me. I purposely left out my plan to go see Madeline Chambers today. Gonna go get dressed. I rose
