Carl East

Carl East was born in 1956, in the City of Hull (officially Kingston upon Hull), in Northeast England. He began his writing career after turning 40, beginning with imaginative tales and then moving onto short stories. In the years that followed, he improved his writing skills with the help of other writers and online authors who gave of their time and skills, to offer advice and constructive criticism.  His vivid imagination took off as his writing explored the various genres of Science Fiction, Horror and Romance. He attained his greatest success while writing Erotic Fiction as he weaved stories of lusty encounters with distinctively entertaining characters to tickle the fancy of the growing fans of Erotica.  The years of heading out the door to a factory, manufacturing, or service job is now a thing of the past. Instead, he spends his time in a pleasantly chaotic home office, legs stretched out as he ponders his next story. With a steaming hot cup of tea and snacks by his side, the keyboard silently awaits, for the next “Ah Ha Moment” when another story begins.

    The Regeneration Incident

The Doc was lying underneath the brightly lit Tardes control panel occasionally grumbling and mumbling. His long thin legs stretched out on the deck with his feet sporadically shifting left, then right, to move his body into a better viewing position. He’d noticed that the Tardes (Time and Relative Dimensions Encompassing Space) was struggling to start each time he wanted to travel, and it was high time he evaluated and fixed the problem.

Ah ha, so that’s the conundrum. How did you get on board? whispered the Doc to a sleeping Drexolian Gull, which had strategically nested beneath the Tardes’ warm control panel.

He slowly lifted the tiny nest out, gently removing the entangled wires from the straw, and placed it every-so-gently into a box, trying not to wake the dozing gull.

You, my little friend, need to be returned home, but that will have to wait, he said.

Just then, the phone started to ring in a loud and attention demanding tone.

Oh, now what? he said, exasperated as he started to scramble up from underneath the control panel and rise from the floor. Carefully holding the box, he began to coo to the startled dove in its own language, managing to explain what was occurring and it settled back into its nest calmly waiting for the doctor to respond to the incoming call.

He answered the telephone and found it to be Mary on the other end. Mary was the Head of the Alien Security Force back on Earth.

Okay Mary, what alien disaster’s going on this time? said the Doc.

No alien disaster this time Doc, I was just phoning to thank you one last time. Please, don’t come here, you wouldn’t like what you…

Just then, Mary was interrupted and the Doctor could hear a muffled voice in the background shouting out that they’re here, and then the phone went deadly silent.

Oh, damn it what trouble have you gotten yourself into this time, thought the Doctor as he rushed to alter his course.

He cursed under his breath while pressing various buttons and throwing switches, as there was a burning pain in his side with his every movement. Once the Tardes was safely on course, he pulled up his buttoned- down vest and carefully removed his shirt from his pants to have a look at the muddy green mark that had appeared and slowly started to spread from his side to his abdomen. It had started as a red and slightly swollen pinprick on his skin, while visiting the last planet on his schedule. An insect had bitten him, or so he thought.

That insect must’ve been poisonous. I’ll have to get someone to take a look at it, he said as the Tardes arrived at the destination he’d programmed in.

He walked over to the door and opened it to find the vast room dark and silent. Removing his trusty sonic probe, he scanned for anything suspicious, but it only revealed vaguely concealed human shapes. Determining there was nothing too dangerous in the dark area he pocketed the probe and moved further into the room.

Mary, are you in here? he shouted.

Just then, the overhead lights came on and a dozen people let out a rousing cheer and shouted, Surprise.

What the hell? he said, as he bobbed and ducked, bringing his hands up defensively in a vaguely martial arts form. That was when he spotted Mary, approaching him with a crystal tulip glass filled with sparkling white wine.

I’m sorry Doc, but I knew you wouldn’t come if I just told you we were holding a surprise party in your honor, so I made the call sound dramatic, said Mary with a slightly nervous chuckle.

Everyone in the room was clapping and coming forward to welcome him. The Doc hated surprise parties but upon seeing their smiling and excited faces, he decided to make this occasion an exception.

You are very sneaky Mary, but I’ll overlook it this time, replied the Doc with a quick smile and a wry grin.

They drank and talked for the next hour, sampling some of the Doc’s favorite dishes. The desserts were always his favorites, and they lined the tables in such quantity that it had all the appearance of a proper English Tea with savories, scones, and pastries. Only after consuming vast amounts of hot bracing tea did the conversation turn a little more serious.

So, nothing’s going on at the moment? questioned the Doc.

No, at least nothing you’d be interested in. However, there are some unexplained disappearances. Three to be precise and they all happened in the city. What makes this one strange is that there were witnesses to all three abductions, and they all describe the same thing, replied Mary.

Oh, what did these witnesses see?

They all saw their daughters snatched by a man wearing black, who simply grabbed them and then disappeared without a trace. The trouble is Doc, we have nothing to go on, no leads to speak of.

Well…can you take me to one of these places? asked the Doc as he emptied his teacup.

Yes, if you think it’s worthy of your attention, replied Mary.

The Doc used the Tardes once Mary had given him the coordinates and moments later, they were appearing at the side of the road where the first victim was abducted. The Doc produced an instrument that Mary had never seen before.

    What’s that for? she said.

It detects anything extraterrestrial, or to put it another way, anything that doesn’t belong on this planet, replied the Doc.

As he finished talking, the gadget in his hand started to make a sound.

Oh dear, we have a time traveler on our hands, said the Doc as he stared at the clock face.

Mary looked concerned and rightly so. She knew that an evil enemy with the power to time travel could disrupt the course of history and be almost impossible to catch.

Okay Mary, leave this to me, and I’ll trace where the victims have been taken, said the Doc.

Mary knew better than to question him and simply said goodbye before he left in the Tardes. The Doc was able to track the disturbance that time travel leaves behind and was quickly on the trail.

    ***

Lisa was laughing as she left the college with her parents. She’d just graduated and was feeling on top of the world. At twenty-one years of age, she had so much to look forward to and now that all the studying was behind her, she could enjoy life. Her parents were taking her to a fancy restaurant to celebrate and her father had just given her a check for $5,000 as promised. It was an incentive for her to do well at college. She intended to put that money toward a new car, which all explained a little as to why she felt so alive and happy at that moment in time. Little did she know that in the next few seconds her life would change immeasurably?

Lisa ran forward to block her parent’s path and stood a few feet away from them.

I just wanted to say how much I love you guys. If it wasn’t for you I’d never have gotten through it all, she said as a tear ran down her cheek.

Her mother started to tear up but then as Lisa stared at them both, their faces changed to a look of surprise as if they’d seen something she hadn’t. A split second later, someone placed their arms around Lisa from behind. At first, she thought it was her brother coming to surprise and congratulate her. However, suddenly everything started to blur and the last thing she heard as her parents disappeared from view was her mother screaming. She tried to look around, but her head seemed fixed in one position, and the blurring of her surroundings was getting worse.

She could swear that buildings and trees were going up and down all around her and seconds later, everything started to come back into focus. She now found herself inside a building and there were armed guards running toward her. She tried to look around to see who was holding her but felt a sharp pain in her stomach before she could turn halfway. When the arms that had gripped her so tightly let go she felt herself falling to the floor and men shouting something about him heading west. She didn’t know what was going on and most of the guards were running past her, apparently chasing someone. The last thing she remembered before passing out was someone saying he’s been caught.

She woke up four hours later in someone’s office and on a sofa. She sat up a little too fast and a pain shot through her head.

Whoa, take it easy there. You were hit accidentally by a couple of tranquilizers, which knocked you out cold, said a female voice behind her.

Lisa managed to sit up and face the person who had just
