    Chapter 1 Baby Girl Kidnapped

This is a bizarre story of a baby that gets kidnapped by a nurse and a dead baby left in its place. Mary is devastated at losing her baby. Eight months later the same nurse kills a pregnant mother and then cuts out the woman’s baby. She had befriended her at the local hotel some months previously.

Mary, a 37 years old housewife experienced her first labor pain in the early evening of September 20, 1974. Though she had two children, of 12 and 11, they were happily awaiting the birth of this baby.

Mary’s sister-in-law, Dorothy, drove Mary to the huge, modern Kaiser hospital. Her husband was away on business. They arrived at 9pm and Mary was taken to an examining room in the maternity ward. Dr Eugene Bagley, in charge of obstetrics, examined Mary shortly before 4am, and decided that she’d deliver in an hour or two. Dr Jack Kartel, who was off duty and sleeping in a nearby room, was awakened at about 4.30am, by obstetric nurse Norma Armistead. She told him Mrs Childs had given birth to her baby while she was alone in the labor room.

Hurrying over, Dr Kartel was shocked to find a tiny, dead baby boy lying between Mary’s legs. He tried to talk to Mary, but she seemed lethargic and was unable to respond. To Dr Kartel the infant looked as if he had died many hours prior to delivery. However, Norma Armistead, who had been an obstetric nurse for nine
