Major part of my career has been in the field of Education and Administration. I have a good command over my subject (computer science) and effective communication in English. I have written books in my subject and have represented Science Olympiad Foundation. I have been very adaptable to any kind of new environment and technologies. I have written a few computer science books for my students based on their syllabus. With lots of health issues cropping up with time, I recreated myself with the help of Yoga and Meditation. Which gave me a direction towards a happy mind and body. Thus, decided to share my experience in penning down the Good Health Technique with all.I am ever grateful to Guruji, Sri Sri Ravi Shankarji and to Swami Satyananda Saraswatiji for guidance towards ultimate physical and mental good health.Lately I have picked up a new hobby - the art of crocheting. While making some crochet related products, I have written a few amigurumi patterns. Sharing my new skill through this platform.

To understand the concepts of Excel and MS Access, MS Office package is used. Excel is used for spreadsheet applications and MS Access is used for database applications.

In my previous book on Open Office, we learnt about Writer, Impress and Draw. This book will deal with spreadsheets and database applications and their usage which are also a part of Open Office Suite namely Calc and Base. These two applications allow us to work with spreadsheet and database applications respectively.

    Working with OpenOffice Spreadsheet

Students are well aware that a spreadsheet is a simple sheet consisting of rows and columns.

With the help of spreadsheet the user can store, view and analyze the data in an organized method.

The basic element of a spreadsheet is a workbook which is again a collection of worksheet.

A worksheet is a collection of rows and columns.

    A column represents an entity.

    A row represents a record.

A cell is an intersection of columns and row used for storing data like text, numbers, formulas etc.

    Calc

CALC is the spreadsheet component of OpenOffice that helps us to enter data in a spreadsheet and then manipulates this data to produce certain required result.

It is similar to MS Excel.

Each spreadsheet can have many sheets and each sheet can have many individual cells.

Each sheet in Calc can have a maximum of 65536 rows and a maximum of 256 columns (A to IV). This gives 16,777,216 individual cells per sheet.

Figure below shows the interface of a Calc worksheet.

    Calc Interface

The figure displays the Calc interface which looks similar to MS Excel worksheet and also works in the same manner as MS Excel.

Try to create a simple worksheet using Calc.

    To open Calc, select Applications  Office  OpenOffice.org 2.4 Calc;

    This will open Calc window.

Enter the data as shown below
