About this ebook

Fallen Angel, Damian Fontaine was banished from heaven for too often indulging in sex with humans. He has made the best of his eight hundred years on earth by creating missions to help repressed mortals find the sexually fulfilling life that eludes them. Advertising executive Hayley Vincent believes Ward Dawson, her ridiculously hot best friend and sometimes lover, would be the perfect man if he didn’t have a severe case of commitment phobia. She’s been in love with him for years. Then a steamy new neighbor moves in across the hall, and she has to wonder if it might be time to move on...or at least try to spark some jealousy and change her status with Ward from friends with benefits to something permanent. While Damian works toward completing his current mission, he begins to question the meaning of his centuries-old relationship with Rhiannon, a witch with a sexual appetite as veracious as his, and the sudden stirrings of mortal emotions. Has he been on Earth too long or is there more at hand?

I've lived most of my life in Los Angeles and earned my living for twenty years by working in television production. I was always interested in writing and dabbled at it, but not seriously. I combined my interest in writing with my avocation of photography and began doing magazine articles featuring my photographs. After selling several articles, I discovered I enjoyed the writing process as much as the photography. My friends told me I should make use of my television contacts and write scripts. I enrolled in a screen writing class at UCLA. By the close of class I knew screen writing was not for me. The other thing I knew was that I wanted to write novels rather than magazine articles.

    Prologue

Ward Dawson ran his hand up Hayley Vincent’s inner thigh as he placed a kiss on each of her nipples. A brief kiss, yet it carried all the heat of the intense sex they had just shared. As usual, hon, it was another great evening.

He sat up, swinging his long legs over the side of the bed.

Yes, another great evening. Hayley forced what she hoped appeared to be a casual smile, indicating that she took their sex as nonchalantly as he did even to the point of referring to it as sex rather than making love. Just a fun way to pass a few hours when neither of them had any other plans. Something with no emotional attachment other than that of friends with benefits sharing some idle time.

She watched him from bed, not bothering to slide out from under the sheet and slip into her robe. His naked body never failed to excite her. Ruggedly sexy good looks rather than what could be termed classically handsome. Thick sable brown hair and piercing turquoise eyes. More than just an athletic body—broad shoulders, a hard chest, long legs, and a very impressive cock whether in full erection or repose. Everything a woman could visually want, and to that she had to add a very hot lover whose mere touch sent her soaring toward heightened sexual arousal.

And it wasn’t just his physical appeal. There was also his marvelous sense of humor and sharp intelligence. Despite the nature of their personal relationship, such as it was, and his relationships with women in general, he also displayed a compassionate and caring nature. A few months ago, when she had a bad case of the flu, he had checked on her four times a day and made sure she had everything she needed and wanted. He had even cooked meals for her rather than ordering takeout food or popping something into the microwave.

All-in-all, the perfect man…except for one little problem. He obviously suffered from a severe case of commitment phobia in his personal relationships. Had he been deeply hurt in the past by a relationship that went awry? Been betrayed by a woman he loved? Or perhaps he had been happily married and lost the love of his life through some tragedy and was now too fearful of repeating the emotional upheaval to take another chance. She didn’t know the answer. Even though they were good friends, her knowledge of his life prior to the time they met was, indeed, sketchy.

She continued to watch as he put on his jeans and pulled his long-sleeved shirt over his head. He stood six feet one inch. Being five feet seven inches herself, she preferred tall men. He sat on the edge of the bed, grabbed his socks from the floor, then took a moment to brush another quick kiss across her lips. I have a flight this Saturday that might end up being an over-nighter. Would you like to go to a movie the following Saturday night, if you don’t have other plans?

An invitation for a week from Saturday was unusual in that he seldom made specific plans with her other than last minute when he didn’t have a date. That sounds great. I’d love to go to a movie.

She managed to bury the sigh of resignation that tried to escape. Yep, just another casual evening making love with the most incredible man she had ever known. One she would be willing to break a date for without giving it a second thought…if she had a date.

At least he didn’t confine their time together solely to the bedroom. They went places—movies, museums, art galleries—and even the occasional shopping trip. All casual activities, things friends would do together but nothing that could really be termed a date. He was currently between relationships, which meant he would be hers for the duration of his dry spell. No way would she make other plans and miss an opportunity to spend time with him.

Only it was no longer enough. She wanted more…so much more. She had been in love with him for three years, starting back when they were only friends and not lovers. Unfortunately, he seemed content with their situation and hadn’t shown any intention of moving it beyond what they currently had together.

They became instant friends when he moved in next door to her five years ago. But it had only been the last two years that their friendship had expanded to include casual sex. He was faithful to whomever was his current relationship, she had to give him credit for that, but none of his relationships seemed to last more than a few weeks—two or three months at the most.

And between those relationships he was all hers, sometimes for only a matter of days and at other times he was all hers for several weeks—initially, a situation she had eagerly embraced as often as possible. She had been living with the hope that it would lead to the inevitable relationship she wanted, a serious commitment, something permanent with the very desirable Ward Dawson.
