About this ebook

Blade Carr and Wyatt Smith are bodyguards from rival agencies who can't stand each other.

Blade is a younger omega who thinks, Wyatt, a slightly older alpha, is arrogant and disrespectful. And Wyatt believes Blade is nothing but a cocky punk. When Wyatt receives a death threat, the powers that be decide the last place anyone will look for Wyatt is at Blade's house.

Both men dread spending time together and are shocked when, despite their dislike of one another, they are suddenly physically attracted to each other.

When they give into their lust one night, Blade just wants to pretend the perplexing night of passion never happened, but when the younger omega discovers he's pregnant, the two men are forced to form a closer bond as they try to find a way to come together for the child.

This is a heartwarming, but steamy 55,000 word story featuring a non-shifter Alpha/Omega world and contains mpreg (male pregnancy). This is a standalone fated-mate story, and book one in the: Bodyguards and Babies mpreg series.

It’s a nice easy read for a quiet weekend at home.

Book 1 of the series, and who doesn't love a good enemies-to-lovers story? The world building is weak since nothing is explained about "Ancients" etc but the romance is cute and how they resolve the conflict and communicate is cute. Pleasant and easy read.

Chapter One

Blade

"You’re saying that Wyatt Smith wants me to watch over him?" I narrowed my eyes, positive my boss had lost his mind.

Darcy dropped his gaze to the papers on his desk. Well… he didn’t specifically ask for you.

I snorted. That’s what I thought.

But he needs to stay with someone he can trust.

Cut the bullshit, boss. Tork is forcing him to seek protection, isn’t he?

Darcy’s lips twitched. Obviously.

I frowned. So why me? To say Wyatt and I didn’t get along would be an understatement. He seemed to loath the very sight of me, and I found Wyatt to be an arrogant, know-it-all prick of an alpha.

Tork heard some chatter that someone might be coming for Wyatt. He pissed off a guy who is supposedly in the Russian mafia a week ago, and until he can figure out if this threat is serious or not, Tork thought Wyatt should drop out of sight for a while. He figures no one will look for him at your place.

Uh, yeah. Because only an idiot would put the two of us in the same room together.

He frowned. You both need to grow up. You think I haven’t had to work with people I hated? That’s life, boys.

I shifted restlessly. Why not just arrest whoever this is threatening Wyatt?

He sat back in his chair and linked his fingers over his flat stomach. If that was easy, don’t you think we would have done that by now?

Wyatt probably started this rumor just to make himself seem more important.

Darcy gave a weary sigh. Could you please stop second-guessing everything and just do your job?

I scowled. My job is protecting people who deserve it.

That isn’t your call. You don’t get to decide who’s worthy and who isn’t. He gave me a stern look. This will be a more informal arrangement than usual. Wyatt will stay with you, and you’ll need to keep your ears and eyes open until we can decide if the threat is for sure.

Why can’t we just wait and see if anyone comes after Wyatt? If this whole thing was bogus, I sure didn’t want to have him crashing at my place.

Better safe than sorry.

I groaned and stared at the ceiling. Why the hell would Wyatt pick Shield to protect his ass? There are other agencies, for fuck’s sake. Why doesn’t he just use one of the guys from Fist? He works for them, he should be able to trust them.

There are reasons.

I narrowed my gaze at his mysterious tone. Like what?

Don’t worry about it.

I chuffed. Hey, maybe you could get away with saying that to me, if I wasn’t the one who was going to be babysitting Wyatt’s obnoxious ass.

He’s not that bad.

Yeah he is.

My boss’s lips twitched. He’ll be at your place in an hour.

What? Irritation flushed through me. Why the hell so soon?

Would you rather we wait until someone takes him out?

I smirked. Maybe. At least I wouldn’t have to put up with him anymore.

Knock it off, Blade. He cleared his throat and leaned forward, glancing around the office as if he was uneasy. Listen, I have some other news.

What kind of news?

He grimaced. You won’t like it. But it’s not up to you or me.

My stomach sank. What?

Fist and Shield are merging.

I kept my face blank even though I wanted to jump up and scream. Excuse me? As far as I knew, my company, Shield, was doing fantastic. Fist had been around a few years longer, but Shield had burst onto the bodyguard scene with a bang. Why?

Nice job controlling your facial expressions. He returned to leaning back in his chair with his hands crossed. That skill set will come in handy while you’re watching over Wyatt.

This day was really turning out to be a bummer. Frustration and confusion boiled in my gut. I don’t understand the need for merging.

It’s a done deal. You and I have no say in the matter.

But why would we merge?

He shrugged. We go after the same jobs all the time. It makes more sense to join forces and stop stepping on each other’s toes.

No it doesn’t. I’d enjoyed stealing jobs from under Fist’s nose. It had made the work twice as enjoyable to see Wyatt and his crew pissed off when we snagged a juicy job out of their hands.

I take orders just like you. If the higher-ups say we’re merging, then I’ll keep my mouth shut and do what they say. He twisted his lips as he studied me. "If you like your job, you should do the same.

I sighed. So if we’re merging, what does that mean exactly?

It will affect me more than you. He patted a thick file on his desk. I have to familiarize myself with all of Fist’s agents so I can assign them cases that work to their strengths.

If you were worried about that, you wouldn’t have me babysitting Wyatt’s ass, I grumbled.

His gaze was impatient. I don’t get why you two hate each other so much.

He’s arrogant.

He chuffed. So are you.

He’s a dick. He thinks it’s hysterical to play pranks on me when I’m on the job. I narrowed my gaze. Remember when he hired that stripper to pretend to pull me over? I didn’t find that nearly as funny as you all did.

He grinned. Oh, come on. It was great. You were so pissed off at the guy for stopping you, and your face was priceless when the dude started pulling off his clothes. He chuckled. Thank God for dash cams. That was a riot.

My face warmed and I sat up straighter. It was a stupid prank. The guy wasn’t even a good stripper.

He raised one eyebrow. Are you an expert on male strippers?

I scowled. No.

You should lighten up.

I bugged my eyes. Really? Because I thought the point of my job was to keep my clients safe. I take my charges safety very seriously, and being pulled over by strippers or having someone crank call me interferes with that.

You were at the end of your details both times. No one was in any danger. He snorted. Besides, you got him back good with that fake flat-tire ruse you pulled.

I perked up. Yeah. I grinned. That was awesome. I made sure the chick had big boobs. I knew he couldn’t resist helping some girl who was that hot.

It was hysterical.

When he realized every word he’d said to her was being broadcast over our channels— I slapped my knee and guffawed. He was so embarrassed.

Right? My boss laughed loudly. Those were some of the worst pickup lines I’d ever heard an alpha use on an omega.

I wiped the tears of laughter from my eyes. Oh, yeah. The worst. He thinks he has such amazing game. I exhaled and shook my head.

Darcy’s smile faded and he looked at his watch. You should head out. I don’t want Wyatt standing out in the open because you aren’t there to welcome him.

My frustration returned. So there’s no way I can talk you out of this and get you to push him off on someone else?

Nope. He shook his head.

I stood and headed toward the door, feeling pissed off.

Keep him safe, Blade.

I’ll do my best, I said tersely. I knew there was nothing worse than trying to guard a bodyguard. We all had our own way of doing shit, and we thought the way we did things was the right way. Plus, when you threw in how much Wyatt and I disliked each other, I knew this detail was going to suck big-time.

I believe in you. His voice dripped with sarcasm.

Fuck off, boss.

His loud laughter followed me out of the room.

****

When I walked up the short cobblestone path to my house, Wyatt was nowhere in sight. I scanned the small porch at the front of my home and frowned. Was he running late? I’d busted my ass to get here on time and he wasn’t even here yet? Typical. The world revolved around Wyatt Smith.

I unlocked my door, and when I walked into my living room, I found Wyatt sitting on my couch. I froze and glared at him. You better not have broken a fucking window to get in here. I deactivated the beeping alarm as I spoke.

He smirked as he ran a hand over his smooth dark hair. You’re late.

I looked at my watch again. Bullshit. It’s exactly two. I was pissed he’d apparently gotten around my alarm system. That was no easy task. I had a ton of redundant backups so that disabling one sector shouldn’t shut down the entire system.

Your watch must be slow.

No. Yours is fast, I snapped.

He shrugged. Whatever.

How did you get in?

He held up a small black device. Our tech department just came up with this little baby. This disables any alarm for twenty seconds. All I had to do was figure out your alarm model, push this button, and then pick the lock on your back door.

What about the motion detector function?

He snorted. I put it on large-pet mode so it bypassed it.

Sneaky asshole. Did you break my door lock? I growled.

Relax. It’s fine. I’m not a rookie.

You should have just waited for me.

He smirked. It’s hot outside. I didn’t want to get my suit sweaty.

Jesus. I narrowed my eyes. You’re already a pain in my ass and you’ve only been here five minutes.

He gave a gruff laugh. This little arrangement wasn’t my idea.

Yeah, it wasn’t mine either. I pulled off my jacket and tossed it over a chair. I once had a horrible toothache that lasted a month, I suppose I’ll survive this too.

Let’s hope we both do.

I faced him and squared my shoulders. We need some ground rules.

Oh, boy. You’re about to get tough, aren’t you?

I shoved down my irritation. This is my house and we’re going to do it how I like it.

He smirked. Sounds vaguely sexual.

My face heated. Fuck you, Wyatt.

He raised his perfect brows. Kid, stop flirting. I don’t swing that way.

I clenched my jaw. You’re hysterical.

He grinned and his green eyes lit with amusement. You’re so easy to piss off. Don’t you know that makes you easy to manipulate?

How about we don’t talk unless we absolutely have to?

Fine with me.

When we go out you’ll follow my protocol. But in the house we can avoid each other as much as possible. Got it?

He gave a tight smile. God, you’re a bossy little twit.

Anger prickled the back of my neck, but I shoved it down. Nobody seemed to piss me off as easily as Wyatt. The minute he started talking, something inside me seemed to wake up and want to growl at him. Instead, I sucked in a calming breath. I’m good at my job. You can be a prick all you want, but I have a perfect record. I’m not going to let you ruin that for me.

He grimaced. Obviously I don’t want your record smeared. That would mean I died.

I smirked. Or maybe you could just be horribly maimed.

He narrowed his gaze. Does your superior know how much you hate me?

I don’t hate you any more than you hate me. I moved toward my bedroom as my gut churned with frustration. This was going to be a long, stressful two weeks if we were at each other’s throats the whole time.

You younger wolves always feel threatened by us more experienced alphas. What you should do is learn from us, not be intimidated by us.

I stopped and faced him with an outraged expression. You don’t intimidate me. You annoy me.

I was doing this work before you graduated high school, kid.

I’m not twelve. I’m thirty.

He curled his lip. I’ve got a decade more of life under my belt. I know more about this job than you ever will. His face darkened with anger, and his eyes glowed a lighter green.

Bullshit. You’re old school. Your time has come and gone.

He scowled. You omegas need to learn your place.

I laughed. I didn’t really feel like laughing, but I didn’t know what else to do. He was irritating me so much it was either laugh or throw something at him. You need to learn yours, old man.

His mouth tightened. This is never going to work.

Sure it will. Keep out of my way and I’ll keep out of yours. I left him there and escaped to my room, seething.

I sat on the edge of my bed trying to figure out how the hell we were going to not kill each other. The very sight of him made my pulse spike with aggravation. Where did he get off lecturing me? That was the problem with those older alphas; they thought just because we didn’t do everything the same as them we didn’t know what we were doing. I was great at my job. Yes, I had to grudgingly admit Wyatt was accomplished as well. But I was in charge of his life for the next few weeks, and he needed to relinquish control or we could both get killed.

Chapter Two

Wyatt

It bugged me sometimes that our modern society was so different now. In the past, alphas had ruled everything. We’d been the only ones in charge, and omegas had been second to us. But now omegas were allowed to advance as quickly as their skills could move them forward. They were even sometimes promoted ahead of alphas.

It was hard for me to accept the new ways when an omega was as cocky as Blade. Yes, he was excellent at his job, but his attitude grated on me. That was why I’d stupidly let him get the best of my temper a few hours ago. I needed to hold my anger in better and let him think he was in control. Maybe then he’d be less of an asshole.

Maybe.

He’d hidden in his room since we’d had words. I was glad I didn’t have to see him, but my stomach growled as dinnertime approached. I felt weird about riffling through his kitchen in search of food, but I also didn’t enjoy the idea of starving. I hated having to rely on Blade for anything. I was usually the one in control, and this situation was ridiculous.

When Blade walked into the room, I schooled my face so that I didn’t show any angry emotions. He wore shorts and a T-shirt, and his casual attire took me by surprise. I’d never seen him in anything but his work clothes, and my gaze roamed his lean tanned legs and his muscled biceps. He had a much nicer body than I’d have suspected. When I realized I was basically checking him out, I looked away, embarrassed by my overly curious scrutiny of his body.

His voice was stiff as he spoke. Since this is your first night here, I’m going to cook us dinner. I think it’s safer than ordering in or going out.

Agreed. Ordering takeout could sometimes give things away. If you normally placed small deliveries and all of a sudden you were ordering a lot more food, anyone watching could catch on you had company. Neither of us had really had time to figure this situation out yet, and we needed a night to get a game plan in place.

He stood in front of me, his hands on his narrow hips. Any food allergies I should know about?

No.

Anything you hate? His gaze flickered. Besides me.

Nope. Just you.

He clenched his jaw and moved into the kitchen, muttering under his breath.

Did you say something? I needled.

He didn’t respond. He opened cupboards and banged pots and pans as he moved around the small kitchen. I found a perverse pleasure in annoying him, and so I stood and followed him. I leaned against the counter near the stove and watched him searching for utensils.

Have you ever done this before? I asked with a smirk.

Yes. He scowled at me and continued riffling through his storage.
