About this ebook

Shelby Parker is one of nineteen polar bear shifters living in the small town, and the only one of marriageable age. That hasn’t bothered her too much as she’s been busy guiding hunters and the like and trying to contain the town’s secret.
When Travis Stephenson, a biologist known for his work with bears, decides to come to town to study the inland polar bears, everyone is a little on edge. Why now? What is he trying to find out?
Shelby is prepared to keep the towns secret from the newcomer, but when she takes one look at him, her inner bear stands up and cheers.
Travis’s reaction to Shelby is spontaneous and has his inner bear clamouring to come forth. Sparks fly between the two, and only when Shelby’s life is in danger, does Travis finally release control of his inner bear and allow his secret to come out.
Join Shelby and Travis as they navigate the first stages of their relationship amidst lust, doubts, and danger.

    Chapter 1

Shelby walked into the small town bar and nodded at the barman, Joe. It was a little before the dinner hour in Bear Creek, Alaska, and she had had one of the worst days in...heck, she couldn’t remember the last time she’d had a day like this one.

Shelby ran a small guide service, usually for the seasonal hunters that frequented this part of Alaska. Situated more than a hundred and fifty miles from the city of Anchorage, Bear Creek was fairly isolated and the people who lived here liked it that way.

Shelby had been raised by the Tompkins family after her own parents were killed when she was but a wee baby. The stories surrounding their deaths were varied, and often in direct contrast with one another. A freak accident! They’d been cursed because of their relationship! Her father had lost his temper, killed his wife, and then himself!

No evidence of what really happened had ever been found. Just two bodies, buried beneath the rubble that at one time had been their home, with Shelby safely ensconced in her baby seat inside the family car. The explosion had rattled windows two miles away, and the community had come running to the rescue. But only the baby had been saved.

Now, she was twenty-three years old and ran one of the only guide services in the county. The fact that she was a bear shifter, polar bear to be exact, came in very helpful in her line of work. There had been multiple times where her inner bear had risen to the rescue, stopping other predators in their tracks just by her presence.

There had been other times where her inner strength had been able to help her save a human, just by harnessing her bear strength, and remaining in human form. One did not transform into their bear form in front of those who were unaware. It just wasn’t done.

Shelby, what’s new? Joe asked as he handed her a glass of cola. Everyone who knew Shelby, also knew she didn’t drink. Ever.

Not much. I’m supposed to be meeting some research biologist here in town.

Research biologist? What’s he studying? Joe
