The ground shook. One-Arm rolled to the side, avoiding a falling tree. Bark brushed against the hairs on his arm the tree crashed into the ground, sending a cloud of dirt and leaves into the air. That was close, he thought.

Wha… what was that? Groundstomp asked as he rubbed the sleep—and then the dirt—from his eyes. He blinked, bringing his eyes into focus. It was hard to make out at first. Then he saw it. It was moving toward them.

Run! One-Arm shouted. He grabbed his brother’s hand and began to pull him away.

In that moment, the warthog saw them. It lowered its snout to the ground. Plumes of noxious fumes erupted from its nostrils.

The beast towered over the jungle canopy. It must have been at least a hundred feet tall. It flailed its head, crashing its curled tusks into the trees, ripping them from the dirt by the roots and sending them flying.

One-Arm slung his brother onto his back and propelled himself through the thick forest with his stick. The hog gave chase.

Stripe brought her stick down hard, aiming at the belly of the black leopard standing inches behind her. The black leopard disappeared.

    Over here, he said.

    Stay back! Stripe shouted.

Or what? the other cat asked and approached, a devilish grin on his face. You can’t hope to stop the two of us. You’re just too slow. He licked his paw.
