About this ebook

Requiem For Eden - Season 1: Episode 8. False Prophet
Gabriel and the young knights survived the fire demon, though most of the minotaurs weren’t so lucky. Roast pork.

He decides to take the caravanserai back to Trinity to get some peace. If only life was so simple.

Asteri the Daywalker has never been defeated, and that was against monsters, so he thinks Gabriel is going to be easy meat.

And while Asteri makes his plans, Shister Journdyse has hung up his lawyer’s shingle and picked up an old prophet’s robe. He intends mischief.

Nothing too dramatic for the Archangel Michael. There might still be time to get his depleted army up to speed. But Lucid receives some astounding news. News that will turn Trinity into a bloodbath.

The Fates are pulling the threads ever tighter and the moment of Trinity’s greatest peril is fast approaching.

    False Prophet

The prophet in the vacant lot was preaching to the crowd, singing sacred songs and reading from his bible. The sacred songs had turned out to be a whole lot easier than he’d expected. He just said Architects loudly and mumbled for a while with a long wailing sound. Have everybody sobbing into their hankies, he’d imagined. The bible, that had been a bit more testing. He’d written it the night before in the tavern over a few beers. The breakthrough there came when he realized he just had to write stuff like the lamb will lay down with the lion, then end it there before discussing the gory consequences. And finishing every verb with an eth was a masterstroke. So now he was standing on his wooden box, giving his all to the crowd.

The crowd. We weren’t going to go there, but… a kid on a wooden horse picking his nose, two other kids waiting for the bag of bones to bugger off so they could have the box away and put wheels on it. And a wino who thought the prophet was a stripper.

And the watchmen. There’d been complaints about a near naked bag of bones in a dirty diaper wailing and scaring the horses, so the watchmen had been called. Five of them. One to supervise, two to carry out a risk assessment to ensure any action taken did not endanger themselves or members of the public, one burly watchman to do the business. And a probie to fetch coffee and sandwiches. It was going to be a long operation.

Shister Journdyse was there too, way back on the main square, watching the sad performance with a sinking heart. That hadn’t worked out as hoped. And what happened to the incognito? The man was wearing a diaper. No, stuff that, start again was his motto. Well, as of that morning it was.

Woe looked around slowly. Where’s Bayad Asman?

Gabriel glanced back around the edge of his hood. He’s a nomad.

    Woe nodded. I know that.

You know what a nomad is, right?

Yes, of course. Everybody knows that.

Nomads wander about, Anella said, seeing the onset of that old familiar bewilderment.

I know that too. Woe looked around again. So where’s Bayad Asman?

Gabriel strode ahead. To talk to a rock.

Delove Devine had seen the whole sorry debacle. The fire demon had screwed up again. Problem being she was the one who’d have to tell the Dark Man. Last one to bring him bad news was the boarotaur, a smaller version of his cousin the minotaur, but not as clever. And that didn’t bear thinking about.
