5-Ingredient Soup Detox - Jillian Riggs
Author’s Foreword
To keep the body in good health is a duty.
– Buddha
I must admit, I have heard, read and tried several detox programs. I always thought of myself as someone able to succeed on any detox challenge. It would be probably easy avoiding certain foods, eating only one or few types of food on my diet and then doing just that for several weeks. I was wrong, very wrong.
I seesawed between powering through a detox program only to fail miserably halfway through it. I actually did great in the first few weeks. I was more determined than ever. I got all my bases covered; my kitchen, fridge, and pantry were packed with only the food items that I can eat. I made sure that when I go to work, I packed my lunch, so I do not have to settle for cafeteria food. I monitored my weight and other health stats regularly to give me the motivation that I needed. The weeks were promising, and I thought I would make it till the end of the program. I did not.
If this series of events are familiar or even similar to what you have encountered during your own attempt to completing detox program, then let me share with you what I think went wrong. The actual food items I prepared were a great match to my detox requirements but were definitely out of sync with my dietary, nutritional and craving requirements.
You see, I work full-time inside and outside the home. I certainly need above average energy levels to fuel me through the day. I got chores at home, deadlines at work plus I also want to take care and enjoy myself from time to time. Most of the detox programs I tried left me zapped of energy. By the end of the week, I feel tired. This feeling of fatigue is strike one on my failures on detox challenges.
The second strike is being cranky. I find myself easily irritated at the smallest mistakes. A toy out place, a misfiled document and other minor errors, these things make me lose my temper. It as if the more I take control of my diet the more I lose control of my feelings and emotions, now this is something I never would like to experience again.
The third and final strike are that my mental abilities seem to degrade on the first few days of other detox programs. I easily lose my focus; my attention is definitely impaired, and sometimes I see myself reading books and reports, and when I finish a chapter or a section, I realize I have absolutely no idea on what I was reading.
I later learned that these strikes as I called them were natural and expected side effects of the detox programs that I tried. The loss of energy, the mood swings and the impaired mental faculties, these necessary consequences, I decided that I wanted none of these. I wanted to detox, but I did not want to have to suffer through any of these strikes.
This is the reason why I chose the Soup Detox Program and also the reason why I wanted to share my experience, the lessons and tips I learned and the recipes that I used for the Program. I will not use the word easy to describe this Program. I think enjoyable is the most appropriate word!
The ingredients are great, in fact, they are rich in both taste and texture. Plus, at the end of the
