August 9, 1958... Low traffic flows past Thomas Edison’s winter property in Fort Myers, Florida. Outside of the property, palm trees are perfectly planted in single file along both sides of McGregor Boulevard for over ten miles enroute to the beach.

The view of Edison’s estate; the large white two-story main house, laboratory, pool, garage, and remaining estate is mostly obstructed from large trees and bushes along the property fence line. The entire property is meticulously landscaped, not a branch out of place on the exotic plants and trees. An old model T-car is parked in the garage with legs exposed underneath. Current country music plays from within the garage. Three men are trimming dead palm tree branches throughout the property.

The rear of the property looks out onto the Caloosa Hatchee River that leads out to the Gulf of Mexico. Mrs. Feldor, a fat woman in her 50's sweeps the front porch of the main house and hums a tune. Another woman in her 30's, Mrs. Edwards, walks up the stairs, nods to Mrs. Feldor and reaches for the front door. Mrs. Edwards stops and points down at the porch where dirt was overlooked.

MRS. EDWARDS: You missed a spot.

    MRS. FELDOR: Yes Ma'am.

Mrs. Edwards enters the house and Mrs. Feldor shakes her head, rolls her eyes, and sweeps up the dirt pointed out to her. Mrs. Edwards enters the main house. The windows are open, allowing the warm gulf breeze to circulate throughout the home. The furniture is elegant, a mix of old northeastern American and tropical Bahamian.

    MRS. EDWARDS: Sally.

SALLY: I am in here, Mrs. Edwards!

The wooden floorboards creak when Mrs. Edwards enters the kitchen. Sally; a very cute 20 year old woman cautiously paints the kitchen wall brown. Mrs. Edwards is at the entrance with her arms crossed.

MRS. EDWARDS: You are not done?

Sally turns around with spots of brown paint on her cute face.

SALLY: (playful grin) I am pacing myself, Mrs. Edwards.

MRS. EDWARDS: You are aware of how many people that would love to have your job.

SALLY: Mrs. Edwards, this is Mr. Edison's home. (laughs) Edison. I cannot just slop paint on the walls. This is for a man that has invented one thousand-

    MRS. EDWARDS: (interrupts) ninety-three.

SALLY: Thank you. He deserves the very best job that I can provide.

MRS. EDWARDS: You have until the end of the day.

Sally returns to painting the walls.

    SALLY: Yes... Ma'am.

MRS. EDWARDS: After six p.m., it is on your time, not mine. (sighs) Have you seen Michael?

SALLY: He was playing by the river.

MRS. EDWARDS: I need to put a leash on that boy.

Sally returns to concentrating on her task.

SALLY: He is six years old, Mrs. Edwards. Let him be a kid.

MRS. EDWARDS: If I wanted your advice about raising my boy, I would ask.

Sally stops painting for a moment and winces to herself.

MRS. EDWARDS: If you see Michael, send him across the street.

    SALLY: Yes ma'am.

MRS. EDWARDS: Have Mr. Jones fix that creaking board.

    SALLY: Yes Ma’am.

The wooden floorboards creak when Mrs. Edwards exits. Sally returns to her painting and whistles a tune, focusing on her job.

Later that day, the sun slightly peeks through the kitchen window. She hears the floorboards creak from someone entering.

SALLY: Could this be Mr. Michael Edwards?

Sally turns around to Michael Edwards; 6, scrawny, covered in mud from head to toe, at the entrance of the kitchen.

SALLY: (screams) You are a mess, Michael Edwards.

The boy bows his head. Sally places the paintbrush down and tends to him, kneeling down to the young boy.

SALLY: Your mother is going to whip you good. What happened?

MICHAEL: I fell in the river.

Michael is about to cry. Sally laughs and gently hugs him.

SALLY: Okay... okay. (yells) Mrs. Feldor?

    MRS. FELDOR: Yes?

    SALLY: Could you clean Michael?

Mrs. Feldor enters the kitchen and gasps audibly.

MRS. FELDOR: If your mother sees you
