This book is about the lineage of Jesus Christ. The purpose of the book firstly is to encourage us to be content with the family into which we were born. No family is perfect hence the genealogy of Jesus Christ is so diverse.

Secondly it is to exhort us as the body of Christ to find beauty in our diversity and learn to accept each other instead of tolerating. To accept means you fully embrace that person whereas tolerance has conditions.

Thirdly it is to show that no one is excluded, each person has a place in Jesus Christ.
