A Good Man Leaves an Inheritance
()
About this ebook
In this outstanding work, Moses Mangalani Sibuyi challenges the prevalent norms and standards where parents expect their children to work for them. The author shows from the scriptures that God has destined for parents to be the ones who build solid foundations on which their children and their descendants are going to build. Every man, he argues, has the capacity to influence not only his own children but also his children's children. He encourages parents to say and to do things, mindful of the fact that their sayings and doings will be inherited by children. He finally inspires every reader to live their lives in such a way as to leave an inheritance for their children and their children's children.

Introduction
In this book, I am asserting the fact that a good man leaves an inheritance to his children and his children’s children. The title of this book is taken from the Holy Bible in Proverbs 13:22. My approach to this subject is that the word ‘man’ refers to a person, who can either be a man or a woman who has a child or children. To ‘inherit’, according to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary of Current English, means to receive money, property, etc. as a result of the death of the previous owner.
At the beginning of this book, I kick off by focusing on the inheritance of hereditary characteristic. Again, the Oxford Advanced Dictionary of Current English defines ‘hereditary’ as something ‘passed on from parent to child, or from one generation to following generations: hereditary characteristics / beliefs / factors.’ Consequently, the book focuses on both the hereditary and material inheritances such as characteristics, beliefs, positions and monetary, property, possessions, etc. inheritances from one person to his or her children.
Whatever a person inherits from another is called an inheritance, whether it is positive or negative. The negative inheritances in this book are categorized as the inheritance of curses and positive inheritances are categorized as the inheritance of blessings. I assert that whatever a person does, whether it is positive or negative, it will naturally or biologically be inherited by his children and his children’s children. What you deliberately set out to do as a mother or father will definitely determine what your children and your children’s children will inherit from you.
Yes although we may not have control over what our children inherit from us naturally, but we do have control on many other inheritances they will inherit from us. In Part One, I use Abraham’s call by God to leave his father’s land as one of the examples. We see Abraham being forced to tell the first lie concerning his wife Sarah. Later, his son Isaac tells the same lie his father told. This curse of deception runs through Abraham’s descendants from Isaac, Jacob and culminates in Jacob’s sons concerning Joseph.
Abraham is influenced to take a wicked decision to sleep with his maidservant in order for her to bear him a son, an heir. This book shows how Abraham’s grandchildren, Jacob and Esau, follow in their grandfather’s footsteps by sleeping with their maidservants. This first category of the inheritance of curses from parents is concluded with the inheritance of Nebuchadnezzar’s son. Belshazzar inherits the pride of his father despite seeing how God punished his father for the sin of pride.
Part Two of the book discusses the inheritance of blessings. It begins with how Abraham hatched eternal financial blessings for his descendants, the Levites. The book accelerates to the New Testament book of 2 Timothy 1:5. In this scripture, Paul remembers Timothy’s faith and says the same faith was in his mother and grandmother. This verse emphasizes that the faith Timothy had was an inheritance from his mother and grandmother.
When David becomes king of Israel, he starts looking for Jonathan’s son. He expressly says he is going to show him kindness for Jonathan his father’s sake. This is an inheritance he gives him because of his father, not because he has done anything good. Again, when David realises that he is about to die, he leaves Solomon with strict instructions to bestow blessings to his friends and avenge his enemies with death. Solomon’s inheritance of the building of the temple also receives attention.
Finally, the scripture from which the book’s title is derived is discussed. Since the scripture is not specific on the kind of inheritance the writer talks about, the inheritance is discussed broadly as something every man must leave for his children and his descendants. The last chapter becomes specific. It states that houses and wealth are an inheritance from fathers. This book challenges every man or woman to work hard to leave an inheritance which will become a foundation for his children.
The Apostle Paul is cited in the conclusion of the book. He really puts things into clear perspective by stating that it is parents who must leave something behind for their children and not the other way round. As you read through the pages of this book, allow the Holy Spirit to minister and transform your thinking. Also consider all the relevant quotations concluding each chapter. Can you imagine the kind of world we would have if all of us could leave something behind for our children and children’s children?

THE INHERITANCE OF CURSES
Chapter 1
Grand-father Abraham, the author of the first lie
Do you remember Abraham? Abraham is the man whom God called out of his country, out of his relatives, out of his father’s house to a land God said He would show him. God had promised to make Abraham a great nation. God said he was going to bless Abraham and he would be a blessing. He had said He would bless those who bless Abraham and curse those who curse
