About this ebook

What happens when a sexy billionaire becomes just as big of a catch on the field as he is off of it?

Hunter Montgomery is a 21-year-old superstar centerfielder for the Dallas Coyotes, but fame and fortune are nothing new for him. The Montgomerys are worth billions, and Hunter has always loved putting that money to good use and living life to the fullest -- which is why the tabloids have dubbed him "Baseball's Billionaire Bad Boy".

But as glamorous as Hunter's life has always been, even he isn't ready for the wild ride that's waiting for him when he becomes a baseball superstar.

Hot girls, trendy clubs, and luxury vacations are just the tip of the iceberg. Hunter can go anywhere he wants and have any woman he wants, and there will always be rabid fans cheering him on. It's a life every guy dreams of, with a guy who every girl dreams of.

The one thing Hunter didn't dream of? The other side of fame. What will he do when trust is broken, when sex isn't just sex, when secrets come with higher stakes, when money gets dirty, and when his wild ride gets a little too wild?

Jessica Kelly

Author.  Dreamer.  Entrepreneur. That's how Jessica Kelly describes herself.  Just like the main character in her first book, Trick Play, Jessica believes that hard work is the key to success.  Luckily, though, creating new characters and new plot twists doesn't feel like work to her!  Jessica has always had a passion for writing, and she has dreamed of becoming a successful author for more years than she can count. So what about the "Entrepreneur" part? That proves just how serious Jessica is about turning her dream into reality.  Her goal isn't to write a book or two in her spare time.  Instead, she's focused on building a successful writing career from the ground up.  She's not content to JUST have a dream.  She's willing to do whatever it takes to make it come true. Jessica began living the dream the moment she started writing Trick Play.  When she's not dreaming up new story ideas, this native Floridian can be found spending quality time with friends and family, soaking up the sun on the beach, and -- of course -- reading. The Catch - Jessica Kelly

    Chapter 1

He ran full speed ahead, looking backwards over his right shoulder.  The stadium lights were bright, but not bright enough to drown out the little white baseball that was sailing towards him.  Down it came, almost in slow motion, as the crowd around him went silent—or, rather, as his mind blocked them all out.  He was totally fixated on the baseball.  He stretched his arm out to the limit, praying his fingertips were long enough to corral the ball.  As soon as it went plop in his glove, he let out a breath, and the crowd came roaring back into his ears.

    Way to go, Hunter!

    You killed another one!

    Hunter Montgomery, you're my hero!

Hunter couldn't help but laugh at some of the comments that came out of The Den, the section where all of the Dallas Coyotes' most rabid fans sat.  They were tucked behind the centerfield wall—right behind where he made all of his circus-like catches—and they always let him know just how much they appreciated them.

To Hunter Montgomery, running around and flinging himself around like an acrobat in centerfield felt just as natural as breathing.  He could've done it in his sleep.  Hell, he'd dreamed of making catches like this ever since he could walk.  Pushing himself to the limit, soaking in the roar of the crowd—it was all part of the dream.

However, reality came with some unique twists that Hunter couldn't come up with in even his wildest dreams.  The fans oohed and ahhed over everything he did, but they especially loved playing with his name.  They joked that he killed more opposing teams with his glove than he ever could with a hunter's rifle.  Hunter had to give those rabid fans credit—they were pretty damn creative.

Once his feet slowed to a stop, Hunter tossed the ball into the stands—a gleeful souvenir for whoever happened to catch it—and jogged back towards the Coyotes' dugout.  Before he made it to the infield, Joey smacked him on the butt.

You're fucking awesome, Montgomery! Joey shouted.

You ain't so bad yourself, Flores! Hunter shouted back.

As soon as they made it back to the dugout, Hunter turned to his right fielder and smiled.

We have the greatest job in the whole world, don't we Joey?!

    Hell yeah we do!

Hunter was still a rookie, but he couldn't imagine a scene like this ever getting old.  He'd been playing baseball for his entire life, but there was something different about suiting up at Coyote Ballpark.  Not only were the Coyotes his hometown team, they were the most exciting team in the majors.  The Coyotes had a long tradition of winning—a tradition that Hunter desperately wanted to continue.  He'd always wondered if lifting a World Series trophy over his head would feel as exhilarating in real life as it did in his dreams.  Now that the Coyotes had officially called him up from the minors, he was one step closer to getting an answer.

Two innings after his catch, Hunter and the rest of the Coyotes closed out another win and headed for the clubhouse.  As soon as Hunter got out of the shower, he saw a group of reporters standing at his locker.  He still had his towel wrapped around him when the questions came firing at him.

Take us through that catch, Hunter.

The over-the-shoulder catch is the hardest catch to make in baseball, and you make it all the time.  How do you do it?

How does it feel to know that your catch sealed the deal for the Coyotes tonight?

Hunter described his catch for the mass of reporters, step by step.  Even though he'd had plenty of experience with reporters—or, rather, his rich family did—he still hadn't gotten used to all of the attention.  Not that he minded it, though.  It was an amazing adrenaline rush, second only to playing centerfield for the Coyotes.

OK, maybe it came in third—right behind playing for the Coyotes and the rush that came with flirting with a gorgeous girl.

Thirty minutes later, Hunter had finished talking to the press.  He changed into jeans and a button-down shirt, walked out to the players' parking lot, got in his car, and headed towards Clutch to celebrate another win.  As soon as Hunter had been called up from the minors, he learned that Clutch was THE place to go.  All of the players flocked there to have a few drinks and unwind after a big victory.  It wasn't a dive bar, but it wasn't trendy either—which was good, because it meant there weren't hoards of fans mobbing them as they sipped their drinks.  Inside Clutch's four walls, the Coyotes actually got some peace.  It was an amazing feat considering they were all superstars with tons of fans.  They joked that the bar had the perfect name.  After all, they kept coming up with clutch wins on the field.  Where better to celebrate?!

As soon as Hunter walked into Clutch, Joey greeted him with a fist bump.

You're late, Montgomery, Joey joked.  All of that talking to the press, and now you're two beers behind me.

I'll make up for it, don't you worry, Hunter winked before flagging down the bartender and ordering a Lonestar beer.  He knew there were classier beers to drink, but growing up in Texas meant loving Lonestar beer—and he definitely did.

He gulped down his beer and ordered another one.  The cold, crisp beer felt awesome sliding down his throat.  It was exactly what he needed after such an intense game.

Oh my gosh!  You're Hunter Montgomery! a girl at the bar squealed.  You're even cuter up close!

Hunter chuckled.  This kind of thing didn't happen much at Clutch, but he certainly didn't mind when a hot girl told him he was cute.

Thanks, darling, he said with a smile.

Girls had always hit on him, but the flirting went to another level once he started playing for the Coyotes.  There was something about a baseball uniform that made girls turn into big puddles of Jello. They just couldn't resist it—and that was A-OK with him.

But Hunter hated it when the tabloids called him Baseball's Billionaire Bad Boy.  Just because he was a professional baseball player who happened to be heir to the Montgomery Oil billions, the tabloids thought it was OK to follow and judge his every move.
