    Joseph Conrad, whose real name is Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski, was born in Ukraine in 1857 to Polish parents. He was orphaned at the age of 11 and opted for a naval career at a very young age. After boarding as a simple ship’s boy in France, he became a long-distance captain and spent more than 16 years in the British navy trade; he acquired English nationality in 1886. His in-depth understanding of the maritime world made him one of the most well-known sea writers (Lord Jim [1900], Typhoon [1903], etc.).
