    Chapter One

Ton was sure he had sat in something and cursed to himself. He turned and tried to check his swimsuit by twisting his body and peeking over his shoulder to look for any signs of a stain on his Speedo's.

To Ton’s horror, he saw a guest staring at him as he passed. The man smiled, but continued on toward the shower block, sparing Ton any more embarrassment.

Ton was a skinny kid although he had the broad chest of a natural swimmer. He had just finished high school in June and had taken this summer job to try to save some money for college in the fall. Best of all, it meant he could spend a lot of his time away from his new home, a ramshackle one-bedroom apartment overlooking the beach on the south side of town.

Things weren’t really going too good right now. After his father had found those pictures on the family PC, things had really gone downhill fast.

The pool was part of a holiday resort and he was lucky to get the lifeguard position. Jobs weren’t easy to come by in a small town like this, especially with his father’s reputation.

Despite his feminine build, Ton was an excellent swimmer. He had won two regional medals last winter and a scholarship was paying his way through college. There was no way he could have afforded the fees otherwise.

Sorry to bother you, said the man who had been watching him earlier, but the shower blocks seem to be locked.

Ton smiled wanly. Yeah, that happens a lot. Some of the local kids vandalised it before, so we lock it.

You weren’t one of them I suppose.

Ton blushed a little. This stranger had a very warm smile. No, I’d never do anything like that, he answered quite seriously. The man’s hand lightly brushed against his stomach.

I’m only joking with you, he said softly, his eyebrows rising a little.

The man’s hazel eyes bore into Ton and he felt himself turn a shade of red. He shyly looked at the guy and could see he was in pretty good shape. He figured this guest was in his mid-twenties with his trendy haircut and his designer label swimsuit that looked cheap and casual, but deliberately so. Ton had learned over the course of the summer how to pick up on little signals and signs people gave off.

This guy left him completely flummoxed. He found his eyes seeking out those hazel orbs and then quickly looking away again.

    Eventually the man took pity.

He gently took Ton’s arm and manoeuvred him in the direction of the shower block. Oh right, said Ton. They walked along the dirt path and he was a little annoyed that the man walked behind him. He was sure he was imagining it, but he could feel the man’s eyes on him. His back grew straight and his firm buttocks tightened.

Ton couldn’t understand the reaction this stranger was having on him. When they reached the locked gates of the shower block, they stopped. He felt his hands shaking subtly as he tried to put the key in the lock. A strong masculine hand engulfed his and the shaking stopped.

It’s okay. The man smiled. You don’t have to be nervous around me.

He really does have the most beautiful eyes, thought Ton.

The two men stood there, neither speaking.

I… said Ton unsure of what was happening.

My name’s Jake, said the older man softly.

I better…um…go, said Ton, retreating from the awkward situation. As he walked away, he realised his heart was thumping and risked one furtive look back over his shoulder. He saw the man was still looking at him as he went, those soulful hazel eyes sparkling in the summer morning.
