Jaysen True Blood

Jaysen True Blood was born and raised in the Midwest where he currently resides. His first taste of writing came early in grade school with a class assignment. a few years later, his love for writing would return as he found himself with another class assignment, this time a poetry unit. through junior high, he would write a series of novels, many poems, and begin his long interest in writing song lyrics as well. In high school, he would learn the value of tall tales, myths and other kinds of stories as he continued to build his store of stories. upon graduation, he went for a semester at a university, where he would write two stories, one of which would become a serial online for about six months. Returning home, he worked at just about anything he could find, but never strayed far from his love of the story. After his first marriage, he signed on with Keep It Coming, an e-zine, where he wrote two serials, "Tales From The Renge" and "Breed's Command" (the same characters appear with Fancy Marsh in several subsequent westerns. The serial was taken from a manuscript written for a class assignment while in high school). H also wrote writing and music related articles for the print version of KIC that came out for just three issues. When KIC went under, Jay was once again forced to work at different jobs just to make ends meet. between 2007 and 2010, Jay would release "Seven By Jay: Seven Short Stories", "The Price Of Lust: Book One Of Faces In The Crowd" and "So Here's To Twilight And Other Poems".

The Morrow Family Saga, Series 1, Book 7 - Jaysen True Blood

    1.

Toffer’s hands had been tied behind his back, a hood placed over his head. He knew what that meant. His time had come.

It no longer mattered, though. He had expected this for the past three years. He had expected a lot of things.

He knew that they wouldn’t leave him in this position. No, they would find some other novel way of killing him. After all, they had called in the professional.

Jack Killer Brontelli was their best. He was known for his unique executions. One man had been placed naked in a coffin and cement poured in on top of him, then the casket had been buried. Another had been buried within the footing of a bridge that was being built.

But none had been shot. None had been stabbed. That was not Jack’s way.

Toffer knew that none had ever been left bound and gagged. They had been incapacitated, then done in. But they were very much alive...until they suffocated.

He was now broken. He didn’t care if he lived or died. He wasn’t worth much anymore.

He was resigned to his fate. He only hoped that Jack would get it over with quickly. Relatively painlessly.

He couldn’t help but wonder if Tobias was going to share his fate. He doubted it, but one could never tell about Gianni.

Buck up, Tof, ol’ buddy, Jack smiled, it’ll all be over soon.

    And the boy? he asked.

Oh, Jack drew himself up to his full 6 foot, I wouldn’t worry about the brat. His time’s a comin’.

Then, he sighed, he isn’t goin’?

Why are you so worried about the boy? Jack frowned. Seems you should be beggin’ for your own life, not his.

Not beggin’ for either, he slouched, just askin’.

    Whaddya think, Joe? Jack called.

I ain’t got a clue where the boy is, Joe lied, he ain’t been around fer a few hours.

Too bad, he sniffed, I’d hoped to tell him goodbye.

No worries, Tof, Joey shrugged, I’ll tell ‘im for ya.

Thank you, Giuseppe, He smiled sadly.

Don’ mention it, the big man snorted.

IT HAD BEEN A HARD winter and spring for Toby. Even the summer had been harder than usual. Maybe a little too hard.

Joey had caught him shooting up. Heroin had been his drug of choice when cocaine had become scarce. And since his father didn’t care what he did, he mixed his poisons.

He had started with a line of cocaine here and there. When that got scarce, he broke into the drugstores and stole opiate painkillers. From there, it had gone to barbiturates and heroin.

Pills were easy to hide in school. As long as no one saw him take them, he was able to get away with it.  But the summers had been his time to chase the dragon.

But he had slipped. He had gone out during the winter to shoot up and Joey had caught him with a needle and spoon. And a tourniquet.

He’d spent the rest of the winter and all of the spring going through detox. The hard way.  Cold turkey.

Now, he was basically clean. He’d not shot up for months. But he still got high.

He had switched to amphetamines. These fueled his aggressiveness. They fueled his irritability. His hostility. His need to cause others pain.

It made him feel as if he had done a few lines. It made him feel indestructible. Untouchable.

In his mind, he was superman. He was able to leap tall buildings. He could do whatever he pleased and no one could stop him.

He now stood in the door of the bathroom of the apartment he had shared with his father since Gianni took everything over watching as Jack Brontelli’s men led his father out, hands tied behind his back. He had heard his name mentioned. He had heard Joey’s response.

His father had not seen him appear at the bathroom door. Nor could he see the tears in his eyes. Even Toby knew this was the end. He knew that his father had not lied to him in the end. There hadn't been any hidden money.  No miracle cash.

But Joey had seen him appear in the bathroom door. The goon had intentionally lied. But why?

What did he hope to gain? Mental torture? Sadistic pleasure? What?

He watched, for the last time, as his father was led out of the room. He made no sound. No move.

But his was not so much due to cruel intent. It was more a fear of being beaten. Not that he would feel it. But it was the principle of the idea.

THE DOJ HAD FINALLY called for the arrest of Toffer and Tobias French. Eddie Hoover was now ecstatic. They were finally doing their job.

He had sent his best to bring the culprits in. Well, he had contacted the Chicago office, anyway. They would have the Frenches in custody in a couple days.

It was going to be a great autumn. With the closure of the French case, he could focus on the red menace. He could go after all the foreign agents around the country.

He smiled. His work had paid off. He was now the most powerful man in the country.

The President feared him. Congress feared him. The DOJ feared him.

Even the citizens of the US feared him. Or, if they didn’t, they soon would. He would see to that.

Hell. He had files on everyone. Thick. Filled with their most intimate secrets.

Leverage. That was what they were. Securities.

Things to be used when needed. If someone who was too strong decided to run, someone he could not handle, he would use their file to smear them. It didn't matter what party they belonged to.

He could accuse them of being communist, even if they weren’t. He probably would, too. Just out of spite.

He hated all. Everyone was suspect. Everyone but him and Clyde.

That reminded him. He would have to set up their next vacation. This time, it would be over the Christmas and New Years holiday season. Maybe it would start before Thanksgiving.

Just depended on how long the French trial stretched. Too long, and it would just be Christmas and New Years. Otherwise...

    2.

It was Natalia’s fifteenth birthday. For a year, she had tried to stay away from Tobias. For a year, she had avoided his crew. He had demanded her to leave him alone when they broke up and she had done just that.

In fact, she had determined that he was all wrong for her. She had seen some bad habits in the boy. Sure the drinking and smoking had been bad. So had the chewing and not bathing.  But there were other things.

Things she just couldn’t place her finger on. Things that affected his moods. His anger. His aggressiveness.

No, she was better off without him. She didn’t need all that. It made him dangerous. Too dangerous.

She could see why her family had warned her against dating him. He was just bad. And though she liked a bad boy, she wanted one she could tame.

One who was not a real danger to her. One that wasn’t so volatile. Or dangerous to her future.

She had refocused on Charlie. And when he asked her out, she had jumped at the chance. After
