Introduction
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
(Verse 51, The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Translated by Edward Fitzgerald.)
Have you ever woken up after having a really good dream and thought that it would make a fantastic story? Or maybe you have met someone really interesting who would be a good character in a book or movie. Thinking creatively can help you to write creatively, and these basic creative writing techniques can be used for many purposes. All you need is a little bit of imagination, some handy inexpensive resources, and some distraction-free writing time.
You don’t need to be a ‘grammar nazi’ or the local spelling bee champion to be a creative writer. All you need to do is write from the heart: write about what you love; write about what you’re interested in; write about your family, friends, or pets; or write about your dreams. Tablets and computers are great tools for writing but the humble notebook and pen are all you need to start with.
Creative writing can be a very relaxing and therapeutic form of self-expression, and creative writing techniques can be useful for many different reasons. This e-book will provide you with some handy tips to help you overcome barriers that could be holding you back from embracing your creative side, and offer suggestions that you can use to help with problem solving and organisation. It will also provide handy tips to help you create your own story in a journal, help you to write a poem, and to use everyday objects like photographs or paintings to weave a tale of magic and mystery.
Please note: This e-book was written in Australia using U.K. English spelling in Microsoft Word. There will be some regional spelling differences between this and U.S. English.
