About this ebook

Grant lapped at the blood.  He closed his eyes.  The taste, the warmth.  His whole body shivered.  He stood back looking at her.  Yes, after all these years she was the one.  She would be his mate.  He felt a connection to her.  He couldn’t explain it.  He felt emotions he hadn’t felt since he was a child. He watched as she looked up at him with tears in her eyes.  He actually felt sorry for her.  He wanted to go to her.  Unchain her from the wall, and console her.  What was going on?  He was a vampire. He killed for pleasure. He took a step back from her. There were other forces at work here.  Something he didn’t understand.  He did know that she would be his.

Can Grant fight the human emotions Kelly brings out in him?
Can he control his hunger?
Can he hold back from draining her?
Will the lure of her blood change him into something else?
Will an ancient prophecy be fulfilled?
Can they escape the hunters, and witches?

    Chapter One

Jason and Kelly stopped at the corner. He looked around and saw the shadow still coming. He looked back at her and shook his head. They took off running. Many thoughts ran through his mind. He knew the two of them were being hunted. They had escaped the massacre back at the party. They turned right and headed down the alley. They stopped and looked. A dead end. They turned, but it was too late. The beast stood there. They could see the blood and torn flesh on its mouth. He reached down and took Kelly by the hand.

Just don’t look baby! the beast came closer. Kelly buried her face into Jason's shoulder. The beast moved so fast Jason didn’t know it had him. Kelly let out a loud scream. She looked up as the beast's jaws latched onto Jason. Its eyes burnt with fury as it drank. The slurp was deafening. She couldn’t turn away. Jason struggled trying to fight back the beast, but she knew he was as good as dead. She closed her eyes, as Jason hit the ground. She bent down and started to cry. The beast came forward and glared at her. Jason's blood streaming down its face. It raised its hand and ran it down her face. Kelly tried to pull away, but there was no place to go.

Why did you run from me? she kept her eyes closed. She knew it was about to kill her, and she didn’t want to see the burning red eyes. The thing backed off. Kelly opened her eyes and looked at it.

What are you waiting for? Just kill me! it let out a gruesome laugh.

I think I’m full. I’ll save you for later.

Kelly opened her eyes and struggled. She was tied up against the wall. She looked around the room. There were several others from the party. She saw the familiar bite marks on their necks. They hung unconscious.

Hello! she looked over as a pair of red eyes came to her. It smiled at her. Was that your boyfriend back there? Kelly tried to pull herself free. Ah, those human emotions, just eat you up don’t they. he laughed. In a blink, it was in her face. She looked at the red eyes.

What are you? he backed off.

I usually don’t play with my food, but I can tell there’s something special about you. My human name was Grant. Kelly thought about his words. His human name? It didn’t make sense to her. The back door opened.

Have you tasted her yet? he shook his head. What are you waiting for? Grant grabbed the girl by the scruff of the neck and pushed her back.

You know the rules. I found her, and she’s mine! Grant pushed her out the door and slammed it shut. He walked back over to Kelly. He stood back looking at her. How old are you? she squirmed as he ran his hands down her body.

Get off you freak! Grant took a few steps back and opened his mouth. She watched in horror as his teeth grew longer. At least three inches. Along with his eyes, they seemed to glow. He smiled at her.

Don’t worry I’m not going to kill you just yet. Just a taste! in seconds he bit into her neck. Kelly screamed as she felt her blood being drawn from her body. The grip loosened and he stepped back. I knew I was right! he wiped the blood from his mouth and smiled at her. You’re a virgin! she shook her head.

You're wrong, I’ve been with more men than a whore. If you hurt me, you will be sorry. he laughed. Grant walked over to the door and pulled it open.

I’ll be back. We have some things to talk about. He stepped outside. The girl was waiting for him. She rushed forward and pushed him against the wall kissing him. Licking the girl's blood from his mouth and chest. Get off of me! she backed off.

It’s true; she is a virgin. I can taste it in her blood. Grant nodded. He smiled at the young girl.

Yes, and soon she will be one of us.

Grant walked with the girl to the next room. A tall blond guy turned around.

So is she dead? Grant shook his head.

No, Josh she isn't dead. I’ve chosen her as my mate! he walked forward.

You know how this works. If you turn her, you kill her. Grant nodded.

Nothing I haven't done before! the girl clung to his arm.

What about me? he turned to the play thing.

You're just a toy for us all. Don’t make us sorry we turned you! the girl back off and slouched into the corner. He turned back to Josh. She’s pure. The both of us have tasted her blood. Josh nodded.

It's your choice! he turned back to the table. A young girl struggled trying to get loose. What about her? Josh shook his head.

She’s just food! he bent down and bit into her neck. The girl screamed. Trixie got up from the corner and walked up to a leg.

May I? Josh stopped and looked at the girl. He nodded. She pulled the girl's leg her way and bit into it. Grant watched as the blood spurted out. He closed his eyes and breathed in a deep breath. The smell was intoxicating. Josh stopped and looked at him.

Go ahead. We’ll share! Grant walked to the other side of the table. The girl barely moved now. He bent down and bit into her wrist. His mouth was filled with warm blood. He sucked until the girl's heart quit. He stood, wiping his chin. The girl came up to him and ran her hands down his chest. He once again pushed her away. Josh walked over and grabbed the girl pushing her against the wall. Her hands went to his belt buckle. He bit into her neck. The girl moaned as he had his way. Grant turned away. He looked into the mirror at the caked on blood from the boy earlier, and now the dead girl. He turned and looked over at Josh and Trixie. He shook his head and headed for the door.

Grant walked down the hall and into his room. He walked over and lit several candles. He looked around the room. This place used to be a hotel; it now houses their small group of vampires. They would soon be moving on to the next town. They didn’t stay very long in one town. The missing people always raised suspicion. Grant stripped down and walked into the shower. He scrubbed himself free of all the blood. He thought about the boy with Kelly he smiled remembering how he tried to fight to get away. He licked his lips at the thought. Grant grabbed a towel and started to dry himself off. He walked back into his room.

Your turn! Trixie laid there on his bed naked.

Just get out, you have nothing that I want any longer. she stood up and pulled the towel away.

I beg to differ? she slid down to her knees. Grant grabbed her by her hair and pulled her to the door.

I told you once, now get out before I do something you're going to regret! her fangs lowered. She hissed at him. Grant took a step forward, and she ran off down the hall.

Now Grant be nice to our play thing. he turned to see Josh leaned up against the wall.

She’s trying my patients. he turned and went back inside. He rummaged through the drawers and pulled out some clothes. He grinned at the black clothes. It fitted his lifestyle now.

So what's the plan? Grant let the towel drop, and he pulled on his pants. The usual I guess. I’ll feed on her for a few days, and then I’ll turn her. he pulled on his shirt and sat down on the bed. Josh walked over.

You might want to keep your eye on Trixie. I think she's a little jealous. You did turn her. Grant stood up.

Just because you were too chicken. She means nothing to me. he sat back down and pulled on his boots.

Well then maybe if she's not useful anymore it’s time we got rid of her? Grant stood up and pulled on his jacket. Do whatever you want, but think hard before you kill her. She wasn't useless to you a few minutes ago! Grant walked around him, and back into the hall.

Kelly pulled as hard as she could trying to get the shackles off. She looked around at the others who just hung there. She was certain that they were already dead. She looked up as the door swung open. Grant smiled at her.

Hello! he walked over and looked her up and down. Are you hungry? she nodded. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a hamburger. He reached up and undid one shackle. She grabbed the hamburger and gulped it down. He watched in disgust as she ate. He remembered what it was like to eat human food. The grinding of the food with your teeth, the feel of it going down into your stomach, and then the heart burn, and the upset stomach. He reached into the other pocket and pulled out another. Do you want this one too? she nodded. He walked up to her. What do I get it return? he saw the fear in her eyes. She shook her head.

Please don’t! he smiled as he opened his mouth and latched onto her neck. He sucked her delicious blood. He could feel her life force feeding him. He made himself back off. She hung weakened from his drink. He walked up and slid the hamburger into her pocket. Just kill me! he shook his head.

I don't want you dead. he wiped the blood away from his mouth. He smiled at her. He almost didn’t stop this time. He turned away from her. Tomorrow, when I return, we’re going to have a long chat. she barely had the energy to pick up her head.

Grant exited the room. He licked his mouth trying to get every drop of blood. He wanted more. He looked down at his watch. There was no time. In minutes the sun would rise. He didn’t want to get caught out in the direct sunlight. He would be weakened, and could be hurt. He walked back to his room and slid off his coat. He walked over and blew out the candle and let himself fall over his bed.

Grant woke up with a start. He heard screaming. He rushed into the hall and listened. He turned towards the holding cells. He ran at full speed. Trixie was hunched over Kelly drinking. He rushed forward and pulled her off. He threw her against the wall. He turned and looked at Kelly. He bit into his wrist and pressed it against her mouth. She opened her eyes and looked at him. Josh came into the room and looked over at Trixie. He grabbed her and held her tight. Grant turned to her.

You almost killed her! he slapped her across the face. She smiled back at him.

Then I have failed! he pulled back his arm and ran it threw her. She screamed in agony as he played with her insides.

If you ever touch one of mine again, it will be your last day on this earth! he pulled his arm out. Josh laughed at her as she slid to the ground.

You know she's just going to do it again. Grant turned and looked at Kelly. He turned back to Trixie who had gotten to her feet.

Do I need to finish this now? she shook her head. Grant nodded. You’re lucky she didn’t die. Grant walked over to her. She opened her eyes and looked at him.

Thank you! she went limp. Grant reached up and unhooked the shackles. He carried her to his room and laid her on his bed. He looked up at the clock.

Now what are you going to do? She'll just run off when she wakes. Grant turned to Josh. "Bring me back
