At times it seemed to Lisa that it was her lot in life to collect wounded puppies – guys who wanted to play at being masters without the tiresome complication of their earning the title. They wanted to control her life, but only until things went wrong – and things always went wrong. Then they expected Lisa to fix it. It was the last thing she wanted.

What she did want was to be a true slave, with a skilled master. Being completely controlled by a man was all she’d ever wanted. If she could have found the right master, a cage and its trappings could have been her bedroom for life.

She’d tried several times, but inevitably they failed. And since she was too strong to fail herself, when that master wouldn’t take responsibility for the messes he created, she stepped in and made it right. Then she’d move on.

That was Lisa’s world.

And, thanks to The Institute, it had also become her calling, whether she’d wanted it or not. She had come to The Institute by invitation, to train and learn how to be happy as a slave. She had become a good one. They’d found the keys that unlocked the doors she’d hidden her darkest sexual needs behind and taught her how to fulfill them. She had been such a success, in fact, that, after one too many failed masters, they’d suggested she train them instead.

Given her bad luck, she thought becoming a professional slave might be her perfect fit. Maybe she could eventually train the right master for herself. Seeing it as a chance, she agreed to be sold to masters-in-training.

All the while, The Institute protected her. They also invested her portion of her sale’s price in very lucrative funds. In just eight years she’d become a wealthy woman, with a chance to finally be able to create a different life she could tell her family and friends about. She had jumped at the chance to seem legitimate by becoming a fundraiser, taking on worthwhile projects for the benefit of the community. She’d become just as good at that as she was at her night job.

Over time, though, she recognized the arrangement gave her an illusion of security and happiness but not the real thing. Regardless of her life outside The Institute, she needed a real master, someone with the capital M. But, even after so many trainings, she knew no more than the nineteen year-old girl she’d been when she was first sold about meeting that need. It was her last assignment, not quite six weeks before, that hammered home the unwelcome fact that she simply might not ever meet it.
