About this ebook

For the first time in years they’re putting on a school play and everyone is extremely excited. Everyone except for Ella that is... Ella would so love to take part, but she just doesn’t have the courage to perform in front of an audience and is much too scared to join in with the auditions.

The Fizzles, on the other hand, don’t have the same problem. The four fairy girls have just started at their new school and are keen to get involved, their little wings fluttering with excitement and enthusiasm.

Lily will help design the costumes, Violet dances and Bluebell sings. And Rosie? Well Rosie loves sports so probably won’t contribute to the play, but she will support her best friends every step of the way and will always help others where she can, just like the rest of the Fizzles.

But what about poor, shy Ella? What will her mum and sister, Amy, think? Will anyone ever learn why the school stopped putting on plays? Can they discover what happened to the old theatre club? And what will they find in the school basement...?

The lights dazzle Ella’s eyes as she looks from the stage to a crowd of happy faces. Her voice travels across the theatre as all eyes follow her. She feels the soft satin dress against her skin and the warmth of the bright lights on her face. Getting lost in the music, she twirls around and around the stage. Ella! cries Mrs Jones. The music swells from the orchestra. ELLA! Mrs Jones calls again. Ella jumps. She feels her heart pounding. Are you with us today? asks Mrs Jones in a concerned voice, the rest of the class chuckling as they look over at Ella. Ella feels her cheeks redden. She straightens up in her chair and brings herself back to the maths lesson. Ella can’t stop thinking about the school play. She hangs her head and sighs as she tries to listen to her teacher. Suddenly the loud ring of the school bell makes her jolt in her chair again and the rest of the class jump to their feet, hurrying excitedly out of the room.

Well done today children. I know you are all very excited about auditioning for the school play. Good luck everyone! Mrs Jones hollers while she looks at Ella slowly gathering her things. As the rest of the class rush out leaving Ella in the empty classroom, she eventually walks out on her own into the bustling corridor.

Madison Middle School is buzzing with excitement, as auditions for the school play are taking place today. Afternoon classes have finished and the corridor is filled with happy children. The school play is a big event at Madison Middle School and many children want to take part. It’s the first play the school has put on in a very long time. Locker doors slam shut and groups of friends gather and make their way to the school hall. The corridor soon empties with only the faint sound of excited chatter.

There is a small group of girls standing in the empty hallway. Their
