The Fizzles - Kenzie Ash
Bye Dad!
yells Felix as he runs up the school steps. He stops halfway and turns to look back at his dad’s small blue car.
Have a good trip and keep out of trouble,
his dad says, waving to him as he peers out of the car window. Felix’s dad smirks and shakes his head as Felix scurries away. Felix tries to make it into school before the bell rings. He is always getting into trouble and for once he doesn’t want to be late. The large clock at the entrance of the school says ten to eight. He glances up at it as he pushes the large glass door.
Oh no, I missed it!
he sighs. Felix runs down the corridor to the back of the school where he needs to meet the rest of the class. His camera hangs loosely around his neck and his bright green rucksack is slung over one shoulder. He brushes away his long dark curly hair as sweat trickles down his face. He stops to catch his breath.
A large bus waits outside Madison Middle School as year seven excitedly get ready to go on their school trip. The Fizzles get on the bus and find their seats. The bus is packed with happy, giggling children.
CHILDREN!
shouts Mrs Patel over the loud voices. Her voice is drowned out by the excited chatter. QUIET PLEASE!
she shouts louder. The children stop and listen and the bus is calm and silent. Please can you sit down and be quiet while I call the register.
She starts calling all the names and everyone replies clearly. She gets to the end of the register. Felix,
she calls. There is no answer. Felix,
she calls again. FELIX WILLIAMS,
she says crossly for the third time. She sighs and rolls her eyes. Not again,
she whispers under her breath. We are already ten minutes late,
she says angrily. Mr Andrews can you check the classroom again?
