About this ebook
Emily's life was simple. There were animals to tend to, fields to harvest and a garden to take care of. Amish life might've been hard, but she enjoyed what she did, because she had a place in the world—a small farm, a wonderful mother and a loving community.
Then she found out the truth about her life. Miriam, the woman she thought was her mother, found her in a field the night she was born, and nobody knew who her real parents were.
Now Emily was questioning her entire life while trying to deal with the death of her mother.
Emily was alone and scared. She had to find her family, not just so she could find out the truth, but also because she needed to know her real place in this world.
Where would the truth lead? Would she stay in the community or would she find her family elsewhere?

The humidity stuck to Emily’s dress like thick glue, covering her entire body. She still had a lot of work to do so she rushed around that afternoon, cleaning the floors, wiping the tables and scrubbing the walls while her mother tended to the animals.
Once the sun started to go down, Emily began setting the table. Then she dragged the Amish lamp in from the living room, careful not to cut her fingers on the sharp edges of the propane tank handle.
The heat from the lamp was unbearable, but they couldn’t eat in the dark, so Emily went out on the porch to get some relief and watch for her mother. Miriam always came back at the exact same time.
At first, Emily wasn’t sure if it was her mother or just a trick of the light. The barn was so far out that you had to walk half a mile to get there, and the trail that led to it curved up over the top
