Zhivargo Laing

At two years of age, Zhivargo Sean Laing, the son of a straw vendor in The Bahamas, Naomi Seymour and a former hotel worker, the late Cedric Laing, was stricken with Scarlet Fever and the Chicken Pox; it was almost certain that he would die. However, as he has demonstrated ever since, he is a fighter and has lived to lead a productive and impressive life. Zhivargo was born in 1967. He lives with his wife, Zsa Zsa, and their four children in The Bahamas; on the gorgeous island of Grand Bahama. Laing achieved national acclaim, and is perhaps best known, for his work with young people in The Bahamas and then as national political leader, twice a cabinet minister and Member of Parliament and then a senator. Laing has a Bachelor’s degree from University of Western Ontario and pursued a George Washington MBA. He has served as cabinet minister in The Bahamas responsible for youth, sports and culture, education, economic development and finance. He has also a respected public speaker on matters of leadership, finance, economics, faith and youth development. Zhivargo is the founder of the Laing Consulting and Research Group, which specializes in business consulting, market research and human resource training and development. He is a leadership and motivation expert. His leadership expertise is especially targeted at “Nurturing Emerging Leaders” , “Developing and Maintaining Public Trust in Leadership”, “Effective Executive Execution” and “I Can Wait One Hour Customer Service Excellence”. His motivational skills are broad ranging but he especially focuses on “Eliminating Worry to Promote Wellness”, “Eradicating Fear as the Path to Freedom” and “Understanding and Building Trust as the Key to Optimizing Relationships”. He is the author of three books: Who Moved My Conch that addresses issues of free trade in The Bahamas; A Trust Out of this World that provides a modern day parable on faith; and College, Career and Money- A Guide for Teens and Young Adults, a co-authored book for young people.

    Do It - Zhivargo Laing

    Introduction

You have no time to waste. You want to make your life better. You need to make your life better. I don’t know your situation but if it was all that you wanted it to be, you probably wouldn’t have picked up this book. Now there are many books out there about how to make your life better and some of them, maybe even many of them, are really good. But you don’t have those books; you have this book. I want to help you make your life better. I couldn’t think of a more noble thing to do with my life than doing that.

If there is one thing I know about people who want to make their lives better, it is that they don’t want to waste any time . So there won’t be a lot of background to this book. I am going to get to the meat of things right now. Do the things in this book and your life will get better! This is not a book about what you will come to know. This is about what you must do. As Dale Carnegie once said, Our problem is not ignorance but inaction. Do the things in this book and your life will be better than before you did them. Are you ready to go? Then let’s go forward together.

    DO IT!

You don’t really have life; you are life, says spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle. I agree. You without life is like water without wet; it simply does not exist. You and life are one. The life you are is all the life you will ever be. From the day you were born to this day, the life that you are is as complete, as perfect, as beautiful, as full, and as excellent as it will ever be. It is a life sourced from divinity: the divinity that brought our spectacular universe into existence. You are made of eternal stuff, the same eternal stuff that the quantum physicists study and find so fascinating. The substance of which you are made is the God particle, perhaps even that for which the physicists search. In you, the God particle is stable and manifest.

Your life is full and complete. It is the core of being, your being. Life is everything. Without life, we can experience nothing, not misery, not pleasantry. Winning is nothing. Losing is nothing. Life is everything. Life matters totally. Life is the Gift and it is perfect. If this is so, then what is there to make better? This is precisely the question and its answer is at the heart of the issue.

There is no more of your life to get or to make better. You have all that you will ever have. Better stated, you are as much life as you will ever be. Life is as it is, and you are as you are. It is living that you can make better. Living is the content of experiences that we pour into our life. If that content is poor, then what we experience with our life is poor. If that content is rich, then what we experience with our life is rich. Poor health, unclear thinking, broken relationships, poverty, suffering, fear, anxiety, and the like are content poured into our lives. Life is a permanent canvas and it is unchanging. Spirit is spirit and will never change. The paint we put on that canvas is what can change. It is your living that you seek to make better, not your life.

That it is living and not life we seek to make better should immediately enliven you. The truth is that you start this important journey from a position of strength because the foundation of your being is a perfect life, a full and eternal life, the essence of which is divine in nature. What a start to have! You are setting about to build on sturdy ground. Living, because it is changing, holds out the hope for better. If your living was unchanging, your quest for better would be pointless. Our living can be altered, and if we do so positively, then our living can be better. Therefore, where we speak of making life better in this book, we are really talking about making living better. So let us begin the journey. Let’s explore what you must do to make your living better.

    DO IT!

People talk a lot but do too little. Yet it is the doing that gets us where we want to go. It’s the doing that makes us what we want to be. If you will have the better life that you desire, then you have to do. Do! Do! Do! There is no benefit to reading this book or any book to improve your living if you are simply accepting its truths and then going away and doing nothing. It is the doers of truth that get blessed. Action that follows truth brings results. We get results when we consistently act on the truths we discover — good results. By action I mean, any effort that we must make to realize the benefits of some fact or truth we discover. For example, we know that not smoking reduces the risk of lung cancer. Reducing the risk of lung cancer, however, will only happen for the person who doesn’t smoke or who stops smoking. Consistent, persistent action behind truth brings about the best results.

The universe favors the doer and scorns the slothful. Potentiality finds expression only when motion is put to truth. Motion is action, and action releases potential. That pent up energy within you requires motion, and when you release that pent up energy through action, so many wonderful things can
