    HOLY FEAR

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge...

    (Proverbs 1:7)

This should be my personal theme throughout my life.

    My mantra.

A constant, reverent, holy fear of God my Creator

    and His Son my Redeemer.

    This submission, this sweet surrender,

    is the beginning of everything:

    Of life. Of soul

    Of wisdom. Of knowledge

Of my very breath. Of my very death

"If you had responded to my rebuke,

I would have poured out my heart to you..." (Proverbs 1:23)

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. (Matthew 23:37)

Is there a greater blessing on earth

or in heaven than God's love?

It is impossible to calculate the immensity of this love.

It is also impossible to calculate the depths of God's sadness

when we refuse or ignore it.

    "Since they hated knowledge and

did not choose to fear the Lord..." (Proverbs 1:29)

    The choice is yours.

Jesus, help me never to forget, overlook, or take for granted,

for one second of this earthly life,

    Your unending love for me.

For me. For me. I Love You, Lord. Amen.

    GOD WILL POUR

"If you had responded to my rebuke,

I would have poured out my heart to you..." (Proverbs 1:23)

    Rebuke. Reprimand. Discipline.

What form would this rebuke take?

    Life's failures. Life's struggles.

What should our response be to these events in our lives?

Quite simple: Throw ourselves at His mercy.

Seek His will completely. Run to His Word.

Like a child who runs into his parents' arms

    after being disciplined.

He knows he is loved. Still loved.

Then, and only then, can God pour out His heart to us.

    To me. To you.

Then and only then can we experience

    the abundance of His love.

We have access to the eternal heart and mind of the

Almighty Creator God through the greatest sacrifice

    of His Son, Jesus Christ.

His extreme demonstration of absolute obedience

    and unfathomable love.

    Christ's sacrificial death and resurrection.

    His omnipotence.

After our struggle, after our submission to God,

this power can also reside in us.

If you respond, God will pour.

    Turn to Him.

Only then can the pouring out of His power begin.

    Thank You. Thank You. Jesus.

    PRAYER FOR GUIDANCE

    God,

I desire to attain Your wisdom.

When I falter I am asking now for Your discipline,

for Your heart of love to correct me.

I need Your guidance for a disciplined and prudent life.

Through these experiences and because of Your

    eternal abundance

    of grace and mercy,

I will share Your love with every person.

Direct me to be prudent with my earthly goods

in order to share with those in need.

    Give me strength and wisdom

to do what is right and just and fair--always.

Release my heart and mind to share all I have,

    including my knowledge and discretion

with those younger than me and all who are in need.

Help me to use the gift of listening to others and then,

in turn, add to my learning.

Also, Lord, enlighten my mind with a true understanding

    of Your Holy Word.

    Amen.

    PRAYER FOR LOST SOULS

    Jesus,

Pour out your heart to (say the name(s) of the unsaved).

Make Your thoughts known to them.

Open their ears to hear Your call.

Open their eyes to see Your outstretched hand.

Open their hearts to see You

in calamity, disaster, distress, and trouble.

When they see Your rebuke, let the waywardness, the sin,

be exposed in all its evil.

Then let their hearts be filled with the knowledge

    of their total inadequacy

    and Your complete sufficiency.

Then, Holy Father, let them see, let them know

that those who are obedient to You will live.

The soul will live in Your safety, without fear of harm

    in this life

    and for eternity.

    Thank you Jesus

    Amen.

    Proverbs Two

    DO SOMETHING

"...and if you call out for insight and cry aloud

    for understanding,

and if you look for it as for silver

and search for it as for hidden treasure..." (Proverbs 2:3--4)

    Action is required.

Call! Cry! Look! Search! Do something!

God does not desire for me to sit idle and wait for His will

    to be revealed to me.

I must do! Call! Cry! Look! Search!

Then, in God's time, He will reveal to me

His wisdom, His knowledge, His understanding.

He alone holds life's victories. (Proverbs 2:6)

He alone is my shield. (Proverbs 2:7)

He alone guards my course. (Proverbs 2:8)

He alone protects me. (Proverbs 2:8)

    Thank You. Thank You, Jesus.

    Thank You for loving me.

Thank you for wanting to love me.

Thank you for the gracious outpouring of Your wisdom,

Your understanding, Your protection, and Your love.

    Boundless, amazing, unending grace.

None deserved. That's why You call it mercy.

Strengthen me to extend this grace and mercy to everyone.

Then I will understand this scripture.

"Then you will understand what is right and just and fair

    --every good path." (Proverbs 2:9)

I will understand what is right!

"For wisdom will enter my heart, and knowledge will be

pleasant to your soul." (Proverbs 2:10)

    I will know His wisdom.

That is more than enough, Lord--more than enough for me.

    Thank You, Jesus.

    VICTORY IN JESUS

He holds victory in store for the upright... (Proverbs 2:7)

    Who are the upright?

We perceive an upright person as one who is successful,

    moral, and self-sufficient.

    God's perception is different.

God desires a heart that knows its insufficiency.

A heart that knows its position before the Almighty God.

    Falling, kneeling at His feet.

Total reliance on the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Then and only then can we stand upright

    in the presence of God.

    Does this scripture guarantee

that we won't have problems or sorrows in this life?

    No way!

But victory is in store, waiting for us.

In order for a victory to have been possible,

a battle must have been raging.

When a battle is raging, people are fighting and struggling.

    Sounds like life.

Sounds like the times of life.

God promises victory over and through

    these difficulties of life.

This same verse has an additional blessing:

...he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless...

    (Proverbs 2:7)

Continue to walk in His blameless love!

Thank You, Lord, for Your Shield of Victory!

    REDEEM THE TIME

"Then you will understand what is right and just and fair--

every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart..."

    (Proverbs 2:9--10)

My dad could recite scripture--a lot.

As a child, I always thought that God had magically plopped

    His word into Dad's mind.

Later in life, I read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

Then I read it again and again.

I realized that I was able to remember scripture too.

    Epiphany!

So, spending time in the word results in the word

lodging itself in your brain and possibly in your heart.

"...store up my commands within you,

    turning your ear to wisdom

and applying your heart to understanding." (Proverbs 2:1--2)

"...then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find

the knowledge of God." (Proverbs 2:5)

It appears I have a great deal to gain

by spending time in God's word.

Spending time--spending our gift of time.

    Time can never be restored.

How do you spend your valuable time?

God's investment of time has a high rate of return.

    God's promises for me:

I will understand what is right and just. (Proverbs 2:9)

I will recognize every good path. (Proverbs 2:9)

Your wisdom will enter my heart. (Proverbs 2:10)

Knowledge will be pleasant to my soul. (Proverbs 2:10)

Discretion will protect me. (Proverbs 2:11)

Your understanding will guard me. (Proverbs 2:11)

I claim these promises! Thank You, Jesus, for this time

worth living in Your word of love.
