About this ebook

This is a novella, appropriate for ages 16 and older.

In Northwood, Minnesota, there is a graveyard that comes alive at night. Members of the Northwood Zombie association come to life and tell their stories of being undead.

Most of the zombies are happy being human killing, brain eating zombies. Abby, however, would rather not kill - at least not humans. Watch what happens when a lust for brains meets a moral compass.

Samantha, Abby, Matthew and Joseph are the leaders of the Northwood Graveyard Zombie association. They keep journals about their lives as zombies. For the most part, they like their lives as zombies. Then Abby meets a human who changes everything.

The Zombie Diaries - Maggie Stewart

    Chapter One

    Samantha

    July 2nd, 2012

I don’t know what that sneaky little bitch Abby is up to now, but for the past two weeks, she’s been running around acting like she doesn’t want to eat humans. Well, okay, she hasn’t exactly been running; I mean she is a zombie after all. She has been limping a lot, though. Anyway, I have to tell you what happened the other night! What, you never heard of zombies keeping diaries before? Believe me, we do.

By the way, my name is Samantha. I’m one of the leaders of the Northwood Graveyard Zombie Association, along with Mark, Joseph and Abby. Abby, ugh. Just thinking about her right now makes me shudder. She is so….annoying. Abby was a cheerleader when she was alive. You know, perky breasts, short skirt, long legs, blonde hair. Even as a zombie, Abby was pretty. You could hardly see any blood on her clothes, and her hair hardly ever got messed up. Plus, she is always cheerful. No, really, all the fucking time. Nothing depresses her. I tried to steal one her shirts, and she didn’t even get mad at me. It’s so obnoxious! Even humans aren’t that happy all the time, and they’re still alive.

So, tonight, we were hunting, and Abby went off by herself somewhere, which is unusual. She really likes the taste of human flesh, and she loves being right in the thick of the action. I hear she was the same way when she was human. Always the center of attention.

I told Abby repeatedly she had to stay with the group. Northwood Graveyard Zombies always stick together. So, we leave the graveyard, searching the streets and parks for humans. We were behind these trees at a park, and we saw all these humans hanging out, drinking beer. Apparently, humans love beer. Fortunately, nobody in this crowd looked like a zombie hunter. They were spread out on the playground equipment, laughing, spinning around the merry-go-round, sliding, swinging. Summer nights were the best. Especially the ones right before a big holiday.

We all moved towards the humans, who were sitting around talking and laughing like their lives were carefree. Of course, their lives were carefree. They were alive and on summer vacation. Must be rough. There were about twenty of us moving around the park. Our Zombie Association isn’t very big. There are, after all, only 30 graves in our graveyard. Anyway, I digress.

We moved right into the park, and just started crunching on the closest humans. These were easy. They were all too drunk to get away quickly. Well, some of them managed to escape. Apparently some humans have the ability to run better when their drunk.

So, anyway, after we were done, ahem, eating, for lack of better word, I started looking around for Abby. I noticed her sitting down by the trees talking to a human. Talking to her. Like it was no big deal.

Why aren’t you sitting with the rest of your friends, Abby was saying as I walked over to them.

They don’t care about me, the human said looking around the park. Hey, wait a second.

Abby looked up and saw us walked towards her and the human. I could smell the disgusting living smell radiating off of her. And they thought zombies smelt bad. Abby stood up slowly, staring at me.

Hi, she said. She sounded awkward, and with good reason. She should be groveling at our feet, not talking to that stupid human.

Eat, Matt said, walking towards the human.

No, Abby yelled, but luckily Matt ignored her, as did the rest of the zombie group.

Matt turned to Abby and stared at her, his bloody neck tilting to the side. I couldn’t believe she was refusing to eat the human. That’s what we do! Looking back at me, Matt held up an arm and grinned, at least as best as a zombie could grin. I knew what he meant. Joseph got the hint, too, and we motioned for the other zombies to make a circle. Abby stared at us as we moved around the
