Many deer camps have one --the guy who doesn’t need a compass because he “always knows” where he is (camp), where he’s going (to a good deer stand), and the best route to get from here to there. They never admit to being off-course or turned around, but they do admit to ‘checking out a couple of new ridges … or swamps or draws or whatever …’ now and then, just to see what they looked like and whether any good deer sign could be found.
