    About the Author

    Prologue

Danny awoke early. Well early for anybody else, right on time for him. It was six in the morning when he crept out of bed quietly. Steadily he made his way down the stairs and towards the kitchen. A couple of slices of toast later and he was out of the house, on his board ready for his morning practice. Danny found his way to the hole in the park’s gate and forced his way through, the gap seemed to be getting ever so slightly smaller each day, soon he wouldn’t be able to fit his way through and then how would he manage to get into the park when the gates were closed? Danny walked across the fresh green grass with his board in hand. The early morning dew on the grass, the cold still air and the awakening sun reminding him that he was first up, no one else would be stupid enough to get up at this time in the morning. As he walked to the skate park in the corner of the park he thought to himself how lucky he was. All this, right now, was all just for him. This was his time, this was his moment, his chance to do what he loved to do, every single morning. Danny looked out to the ramps, jumps and rails. He didn’t see a bunch of park stuff, he didn’t even see athletic equipment, when Danny looked out over the skate park he just saw endless possibilities. He saw brightly coloured lights as they danced over the jumps and ramps, he saw combinations of stunts and tricks, he saw the twists and swirls of the possible, all of this made the sound of beautiful music. Danny took a deep breath before jumping over the small metal fence that separated the skate park from the rest of the park, he was ready to begin. Danny started with a few tricks on the ground, jumping up from his board, the board twisting in the air and then both of them landing perfectly. When he was ready he started out on the rails. Before long he was performing jump after jump, trick after trick. He glided on his board, dancing as well as any ballerina, singing as well as any opera star, shining as well as any athlete, any other athlete that is. For this was his practice, this was his training for his sport, for him to be the best he could possibly be. Danny saw boarding as a sport and like Danny always said all sports they require dedication, discipline and insistence. The three D’s as he told the others. Spelling was never Danny’s strong point. But boarding was and now is the time when he really gets to show just how good he could be, when no-one was around to watch. When Victoria couldn’t bother him with her disapproving looks, when Leo wasn’t making a noise trying to sell his latest goods, when George and Al wasn’t trying to use the park for their own sport. But most importantly this was the time he was free from his little brother, Max. Danny carried on with his routine before looking out over the park one last time. It was now time to go. He had been out here for an hour and now the day was ready to begin, Danny took a deep breath knowing that the best moment of the day had passed, now all that waited for him was school work, parents and the most annoying snot nosed little brother in the entire whole wide world.
