About this ebook
Shame is the root of so much that steals our joy. In this book, Mike Phillips helps us find the roots to the childish belief: "Something is wrong with me." Though this belief has a basis in truth, it eventually controls so much of our behavior and destiny. Though this book is small in size, it is designed to help the reader see exactly which type of shame is controlling their behavior. By seeing this from a Bible-based platform, Mike Phillips gives a simple and effective method for getting rid of the effects of shame permanently.

Introduction:
Two people showed me the power of shame and the peace that would come when shame lost its power. I want to simply acknowledge both of those people at the beginning of this book.
Bob Willoughby was a mentor, professor, friend and co-worker for many years in my life. But, if he were alive, I would have the honor of telling him that one day in his counseling office changed my life. His time of speaking into my life, showing me the decadent power of shame, and praying for me that I would see its power and call upon the name of Jesus to free me, changed everything. We all need a Bob
in our life. He was not afraid to speak the hard truth I needed to hear.
I owe a great deal to the courage of my mother. When I was 40 years old, she and my step-father came to visit one snowy January day. Even though it was fifteen degrees below zero out, Larry took me outside for a walk. As we plowed through the snow with our boots shuffling, Larry stopped and looked dreadfully serious:
Mike, you have to ask your mom to tell you what happened when you were a small boy.
He never explained any more than that. Having delivered that message to me, he began walking back to the house. I followed, totally perplexed about what was coming next. I had no idea this was about to change my life forever. As soon as the kids were in bed and Larry and my wife were watching a program downstairs, I asked my mom if we could talk in the living room. I asked her what she wanted to tell me about when I was a young boy.
She immediately began to cry. I had
