    Chapter 1

    Imagine you are a doctor.

It’s a cool job, Right? People come to you with lots of health problems, diseases and you cure them with your magic finger. Wow!

But let us get closer and watch a real doctor in action. Is it really a fun job to do?

Not at all. Every minute doctors face tough situations, and they need to make a decision quick enough, otherwise a life might be in danger.

For example, imagine a newborn baby. Its cute, pink in color, sleeping like a darling.

But suddenly, it starts crying and its face becomes red. Something is troubling him.

The Nurse comes running, ‘Doctor, please come, the newborn baby is having some problems.’

The doctor runs, looks at the baby and shocked. His body color has changed rapidly and something really bad is happening.

Now, with a newborn baby, many things can go wrong. It may be a simple change in temperature, Skin infection, wrong kind of food intake or a real serious problem in heart, lungs, blood circulation etc.,

Problem is, the Doctor has no time to think about all these for long. He has to make a decision immediately, and act on it as soon as possible, Otherwise it may be too late.

Now, Doctors are NOT magicians. They tend to make good and bad decisions in equal numbers. Then what makes them special? Why they save lives and we don’t?

The difference is, They have the intelligence and experience to make right decisions, and identify / correct mistakes if any. This comes from years of hard work, learning, and updating their skills on a continuous basis.

Fortunately, not everybody makes such life threatening decisions on a regular basis. At the same time, everyone, including a small kid keeps making decisions on a regular basis and it is important to know the art behind making them the smart way.

For example, Let us say you want to cross the road and go to the shop on the other side. What do you do?

Look at the left side of the road, then the right side, finally left side again. Now, you need to make a very important decision – Is the road really empty? Should I Move Or wait for some more time?

Sometimes, especially when the road is very wide, you decide to wait till there is absolutely no traffic on the road. Otherwise, if the road is short, you may make a dash at it, even when you see a car coming far away. This is because you have a feeling that you can cross the road before the car comes closer.

This is the art of Decision Making. Starting from such simple decisions to very complex ones such as, which subjects to choose, which college to attend, which job to select etc,. your life is going to be full of problems that
