The Black Wolf's Daughter - Pet TorreS

    Prologue

    Sometimes I wonder.

Why does a curse creep forever and ever? Destroying families...

The black wolf’s mark is one of those curses...

My father always had his life tormented because of it. Although he had always been willing to live in peace, others were not willing to let him have it.

I believe for me it will not be different. Me being his only legitimate daughter, I also carry this curse in me. Well, stamped on my forehead...

    CHAPTER 1: Zilis

I was taken from my parents' life a few years after my birth. I was a little girl. I was only five years old. I was playing in the forest, under a tree and my dress was completely smudged with earth.

My parents were in the cave.

When I looked up, I saw a shadow forming above my eyes. This shadow turned out to be a real man which I had never seen before.

He kept his face serious. He had a huge mustache and his clothes were dark like his hair. He carried a sword in his left hand.

Maybe he was hunting in the forest. Well− that was what I thought.

This man looked at me and smiled differently, as if he had found a precious treasure and wanted to offer it to someone. He bowed before me and laid his heavy hand on my face, looked into my eyes and realized I was blind in one eye.

My two eyes were unlike each other.

One was black and the other was white.

    That was a genetic deficiency.

    My mother was completely blind.

People always said she was a witch.

    ***

I was carried to a village called Hope. That strange man took me there. I did not know why exactly he was talking me there. After all I was only a child of five.

We arrived at the village. The people who lived there came running toward us.

Soon a crowd of people had formed while the man called Cinzah, who had me in his arms shouted to the crowd of people.

THIS LITTLE GIRL IS THE DAUGHTER OF A WITCH!

Everyone there was stunned and looked at me. I could see the expressions on their faces.

And worse than that! he cried again, looking at the faces of each of them. SHE IS THE DAUGHTER OF THE BLACK WOLF!

Again the crowd of people came closer to look at me and some of them cried, OHHHHOOOHHH!

    BURN HER!

The owner of the village, Cinzah, the same man who had kept me in his arms screamed at them.

No! We cannot take away her life! Not yet!

All of them became silent and Cinzah continued talking.

She must only be burned in fire when she comes of age. Or we will be punished by the curse of the black wolf.

But she is the daughter of a black wolf and soon she will come to be like him, a white-haired man said.

If we kill her before she completes 277 moons, we will be cursed by the curse of the black wolf. Don't forget that she is the daughter of a witch with a wolf. Obviously, she gets her blood from witch and wolf.

What will we do to this girl then? Another man asked as he glanced in the direction of me.

She can bring risk to our families, a woman said, approaching her two children.

Don't worry. I have a perfect and safe place for this little girl, Cinzah said and looked at me. People saw in his eyes how much he hated me. You will all be safe until her death.

    ***

After a few hours in that village, they took me to the edge of the village, where there was a lit bonfire. Farther on there was an iron cage.

Cinzah held a spear of iron, leaned it into the fire and soon after he leaned the spear on my forehead. I felt my skin burning and flaming at the same time. My screams came out after that as the black wolf’s mark had been branded on my forehead.

Then I cried desperately, shouting on behalf of myself and against the world, as I tried expressing all my pain and agony at what was happening to me.

    Mooottthheerrr! Fffaaattthhheeerrr!!

But neither of them appeared in that village to save me from those evil people.

I realized that I was alone.

But I hoped that my parents would come to save me one day and everything could go back to normal.

If my thoughts could have powers at this moment, I would be a happy lillte girl beside my fathers.

    CHAPTER 2: Zilis

    Two years later...

Since they had branded me with the black wolf's mark and put me inside that iron cage, I had never gone out of it. My entire life was that cage. I no longer knew what liberty was, what playing outdoors was, what it was to be truly free.

I faced sunny days, rainy days and also every night inside that cage. I saw everything around me.

Children were playing in the village. Little girls and little boys were running from one side to the other. In the end they were happy in their freedom.

They always approached my cage and looked at me through it.

As always I was lying on the cold, hard ground of that iron cage. My long black hair always looked disheveled. My dress was completely torn and dirty. My smell wasn't pleasant like the smell of the other children in the village. They barely gave me a bath.

Actually, my bath occurred only during the rainy days. The rain itself washed me with its pure and blessed water from the sky. Otherwise, I would never have known how it was to have a decent bath in that village.

They gave me food once every day. They just fed me with bread and water and nothing else.

She is horrible! said a little girl as she raised her eyebrows at me.

Sure, she's a witch and when she becomes an adult, she will be a she-wolf, another little boy said. "My mother said I should stay away
