    ***~~~***

Caroline stood at the entrance of the old, run-down barn, trying to decide if she should go inside. The sun had set long ago, and the night was moonless. The inside of the barn was lit, but the ominous, red glow emanating from deep within the decrepit building was hardly inviting. Caroline did not see that she had any other choice. She had gotten lost, and her car had barely managed to reach the isolated, little farm before running out of gas. Her cell phone was not getting any bars, and there was nothing else around saved dark fields and countryside for miles.

Shivering, Caroline brushed her limp, blonde hair back from her eyes. She wished she could have found a brightly lit gas station that offered lottery tickets and cheap beer instead of a creepy, run-down farm. She wished she had not been driving out on a night so still and hushed that the darkness seemed to press around her like a sinister, physical presence. But mostly, Caroline wished she had not been dressed in clothes that were nearly as revealing as any bikini.

She did not know what had possessed her to wear the tight, denim shorts which showed off every inch of her slender legs and far too much of her rear. She could not even remember buying the uncomfortable pants. They clung so snugly to her hips that she could barely slip her cell phone in a pocket. Worse, the pants kept hiking up between her buttocks, but when she tried to tug them down she could feel how they revealed the pink thong she wore underneath. Caroline could remember buying the thong at least, but she had never been brave enough to wear it before. She wondered why she had chosen to wear it now. Her long-sleeved, plaid shirt should have been a modest garment, but the buttons down the front had fallen off one after another. Caroline had been forced to tie the shirt below her small, pert breasts leaving her midriff bare and showing an embarrassing amount of cleavage. Caroline consoled herself that at least she had a pair of sensible sneakers on her feet.

Nervously, Caroline shuffled the soles of those sneakers against the ground. She noticed how the yard in front of the barn was eerily quiet. There were no chirping of crickets or rustling of animals or any other night sounds to be heard. She glanced over at the two-story farmhouse across the yard.
