CHAPTER ONE

Southern Mexico in the fall. Hot, dry, and so far, so boring. A lot like the rest of her life, to tell the truth.

Well, except for the driver of the creaking VW van, the one charged with wheeling Bree and the rest of the grad students from the airport to the ruins. A blond, like her, but with crazy green eyes and the tightest buns she’d ever seen outside the gym. And he had a lopsided smile for her every time she caught his eye. Utterly delicious, she was sure, underneath those pants, and she’d love to get him out of them for an hour or two, but that sure didn’t seem likely. Even though he wanted to, too, she could tell, because he’d held her eyes while he told them all after that last rest stop that he had to get right back to the airport after dropping them at Choc Itza, their Mayan ruins study site. And his mouth had turned down a little at each corner when he’d said so.

Remembering brought a sigh. And how long had it been now? Her watch said she’d been traveling for thirty-two hours and twenty-five minutes. Yeah. With almost no sleep. And as soon as Sexy left, she’d be stuck with ten boring, boring graduate students for seven long days. And nights. Trekking on foot all over the stifling Yucatan Peninsula, collecting stories and perusing ruins.

In other words, half of a fortnight with no liquor, no music, no internet, and not one of the four guys would be up for any fun at all. At least not with Bree. Noah, the tall one, had eyes for Misha, her BFF, who had a crush on Miguel, the one with broad shoulders and strong hands.
