About this ebook

There is the belief that when a person is hungry and falls asleep, he dreams of food and eats to his fill. There is also another school of thought that holds that dreams might be the place where there is a connection with a much higher power. It could be a place where God finally connects to man.
This is a chronological collection of short stories and dream encounters that span over more than 20 years. It is an examination of encounters that have caused one woman to wake up with her heart pounding and body soaked in sweat. Many times she would wake up weeping or in the middle of prayer and praise. This is her journey to make meaning out of her encounters. This book also seeks to reach out to many who have sought outlets to similar encounters.
This woman rarely remembers, her dreams but when she does it strikes a cord in her that makes them unforgettable.

I volunteers with young people in public schools and enjoy spending time with young adults and newly-weds. I love to read and can often be found curled up with a good book – most likely the greatest love stories ever written or romance. I have been married for over 20 years and love to share my experiences with others. I live in a suburb of Nairobi, Kenya and enjoy going on safari once in a while but prefer the sunny beaches of Mombasa. I hate the millipedes there ...uuuuhhhhh!. I have finally decided to share my life experiences with the world. I have always wanted to write, but was always held back by what people will say. But guess what? I have decided to take a step forward, I can only go up from here and I sincerely invite you to take the journey with me.

    Prologue

THIS BOOK is not meant to be a guideline for the interpretation of dreams. It is a record of series of encounters and interactions with characters seen in dreams and visions. According to Joseph – the dreamer, in his response to Pharaoh’s baker and butler who were troubled by their dreams,

"…..·God is the only One who can explain the meaning of dreams [Does not interpretation belong to God?]. Genesis 40:8b (EXB.)

He also said to Pharaoh, It is not in me; God will give you an answer….. Genesis 41:16 (NIV)

There is no standard rule for the interpretation of dreams. First and foremost, it is a gift from God for the edification and the building up of the body of Christ. The symbols and parameters for the interpretation of dreams can be as varied as our faces and circumstances are different. Sometimes it is necessary for the interpreter to look at his background and socialization, or those of the dreamer. At other times, what is needed to understand a dream has no bearing on what we are used to but comes straight from the parameters of the spirit of God. As with every spiritual gift, the Lord gives a man the ability to understand and interpret in accordance with the measure of his/her faith.

Human beings dream all the time. When we fall asleep it is as if our brains unwind and make what they will of the information they have stored within them. Sometimes the dreams unfold as stories that are completely disjointed, taking leaps from reality. At other times our dreams appear to make sense. Sometimes we wake up and know we dreamt, but whatever we dreamt of is beyond recall, while at other times we are able to tell the story when we rise up.

There are many reasons why we dream. The most common reason (a no brainer) is that we are alive. Dreams happen to every person. However, more so to some than others. Dreams can sometimes be attributed to experiences in the recent or distant past. Illnesses that may be physical or mental, and their treatment may also trigger vivid dreams. Some individuals have vivid dreams due to traumatic experiences in their lives as is the case in persons experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I am hesitant to say that some dreams also come from heaven or hell because I do not want the reader to attribute all good and bad dreams to these sources. That notwithstanding, dreams can come from these sources.

It is human to dream. They may or may not make sense, but they occur all the same. The books in this series aim to reveal one woman’s response to her visions and dreams. The hope is that the reader may be able to relate not just to the dreams and visions but also the reactions to them. You may actually hear God speaking to you through some of her dreams.

Chapter 1: Thunder in His Voice

GOD SPOKE to me in a vision in the summer of 1985. The full awareness that it was God who had spoken to me came a number of years later. It was not that I didn’t know I had had a heavenly encounter, but because I did not understand much of it, I could never relate to it with a certain level of confidence. I could never tell anyone that it was God who spoke to me. Now I can say that because I am looking back at the event many years later. I smile at the wisdom of 20/20 hindsight clarity.

I wonder if it took some of the characters we read about in the Bible many years to realize that it was God that they had encountered…. Just a thought. Did the prophets all understand what they were talking about at the time when God spoke through them?

I made a commitment to follow Christ on June 16th, 1985. A week or so later, I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. These were two fantastic and life changing experiences. The commitment happened two weeks to the final exam of my first year in college. Of course I had been very distracted all through the year and had done little or no studying.

Let me take a step back and tell you where I was coming from. I came into the university from an all-girls’ boarding school and had never had to make certain decisions for myself, whether it was at home or in school. I had grown up very much protected from life – most of its difficulties and challenges. I was born just before a civil war and by the time the politicians decided that a breakaway was necessary to create the Biafran State, I was a toddler. I was somewhere in between milk and solid foods but still very much dependent on the former. I almost became a casualty of war due through kwashiorkor. Therefore, most of my childhood was spent recovering from the ravages of starvation. My parents understandably guarded me from any harm they could, even in the milieu of six siblings. Looking back I sometimes feel like all I had the energy to do was watch others live. And that just became who I was – one who spent time watching others and seeing little details that other people did not have the time or patience to observe. I paid attention to peoples’ tone of voice, body language, pitch …name it. I never had quick and sassy responses to people like my siblings always seemed to and generally came across as shy and withdrawn.

Back to the issue of being in the university. I had never known the kind of freedom that opened up to me in the university arena. This meant that I was now trying to explore certain limits. It was now up to me to decide if and when I studied, when I slept and woke up, where I went and with whom I
