    Three Sisters

    A soft foam rubber ball struck her on the left side of her head. Rebecca snagged it in mid air as she flipped her shoulder length brown streaked with silver over her shoulders then lobbed the spongy ball back at Wayne, her twenty-five year old youngest son.

    Really? In the kitchen, Wayne?

    The kitchen had clean lines of glass, stainless steel and marble. She grabbed a large mug of coffee from the counter. The panoramic view through the floor to ceiling windows was of forest, fields and the ocean beyond. North Vancouver was lovely any time of year.

    The back door swung open admitting Rupert, her husband of thirty years and running after him were two large longhaired red dogs both barking and wagging their tails. The stink of wet dog permeated the room. He cocked his head as he looked at her.

    What’s the matter, who died? asked Wayne and Rupert as one.
