    I saw her for the first time, on a volcano, in 1979.

    Some asked me: Where does this Salisedine come from? Where has she been until now?

    Now I know.

    It isn’t a good time to run away, but I have this really strong urge inside me to do it… I must do it. After delivering the last load of salt last night, I slept like a baby. I was so terribly tired… I’d never have thought I’d find the strength to get up in the middle of the night and actually leave. But I did it.

    I dreamt of the Moon. It was yellow and full like it is on the roster’s whiteboard and it said to me, Salis, run away. I got up and left my hut. I told myself, I have nothing to lose, if the Moon says to go, I will go. It’s been a month since my mother was buried, and the last time I saw my father was three years ago. I was eleven years old then. I’ve just turned fourteen. I was born in the Camp, and know the world only from what I’ve been told of it by others.
