    Acknowledgments

As always, writing a book is not a one-man show. Without the help and dedication of a few special people (and one dog), this little piece of Mojoness wouldn’t be with us. Firstly I would like to thank Alan Goldsher, whose expert editing took the book to another level. I would also like to thank Alfa, whose wisdom and tweaking of the final manuscript helped me immensely. A big thanks to Reader’s Digest for believing in the message of my story. Ramchandra, your kindness, inner strength, and humility often inspired me to find the strength to keep going. Thank you, my friend, for your courage and your profound life lessons. To my co-driver, Steve, we did it, and I couldn’t have done it without you! And finally, a big thank you to Winston, my beloved dog. He will never know how profound the lessons he taught me were. He is with the angels now and probably driving them nuts! In a good way . . .

Rallying Cry (Or Crying at the Rally)

    CRUNCH . . .

    The full-body jolt.

    BOOM . . .

The head is snapped back. The shoulders pound against the seat.

    GOOD-BYE . . .

The end of my first Mongol Rally.

The Nissan Micra lacks meat, but for a brief while, that little ball of steel was the most important car I’ve ever had in my life. The Micra is one of Nissan’s lesser-known models, as it’s not the most practical car they’ve ever produced, because, as its name might lead you to believe,
