“What the—?” Eric blurted, then laughed nervously. “Nina, what are you up to here, babe?”

“Quiet, slut,” she whispered in his ear.

A chill ran up his spine.

She pushed him backward, hard, sending his feet out from under him. He felt the panic of falling for a split second, until his rear end landed on the seat cushion of a small chair.

“N-nina,” he stammered, stunned.

Eric dropped his briefcase onto the couch with a weary swing of his arm. Another long day at the grind. His girlfriend didn’t seem to be home. She was working late a lot these days.
