    Chapter 1

D o you need a lift ? The old man atop the yacht asked and I let my lips stretch into a smile.

What I really wanted was to sneer at him. I could see his thoughts and the way his eyes lingered on my bare breasts, but I needed to get aboard his ship, and for that I needed to charm him.

Anthony Carmichael was a despicable man.

Nearing his sixties, he wasn’t actually bad looking: he exercised regularly to keep himself in shape. A few plastic operations made him seem younger and his short hair hid a receding hairline.

The problem was how he was inside.

Anthony was a selfish man, without scruples; someone that didn’t care who got hurt in his pursuit of money, power and women.

Darling? A sweet voice asked from someplace out of view, and a few moments later a blonde bombshell joined the man looking down at me.

I smiled at her, genuinely this time.

The woman froze and then blushed momentarily as her eyes took me in.

I didn’t blame her. The only thing protecting my dignity was a small towel around my waist. None of them noticed the bulge it hid, or more accurate would be to say they noticed, but brushed it off not finding anything strange about it even though they should have.

That was my fault. I didn’t want them to notice so they didn’t.

I was still somewhat overwhelmed by what my goddess’s blessing did to me. I wasn’t a regular human any longer, I didn’t get tired, and I didn’t need to sleep or even eat.

I had powers that were hard to comprehend.

I was still the same woman underneath, but now I knew things that I shouldn’t: like the fact the blonde beside Anthony was called Claire and that she hated him.

She was beautiful: tall, fit, with a curvaceous body, and wavy hair. Claire was also reasonably smart, and the only reason she continued with Anthony was fear.

Fear of his power, his money, but above all else fear of what her life would be without him.

Claire had an unfortunate childhood. She lost her parents when she was young and ran away from her relatives’ home when she was sixteen. A couple of years of living in the streets was a hell she never wanted to repeat, and she only left that life behind at nineteen when she met Anthony.

He saved her from misery and charmed her with his wit and smarts. She didn’t care he was older than her, much older, or that he was rich, although that helped.

She fell in love with him.

Which only broke her heart when she realized what a bastard he was, and the kind of suffering he would put her through.

    I sighed.
