Special Friends with Special Needs

About this ebook
This story is about Timothy, a little boy who gets hit by a truck and ends up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. You can imagine the isolation, loneliness and depression that this little boy feels while looking out the window watching his friends running and playing, knowing that he will never be able to do these activities again. Martin, his best friend, sticks by him even when his other friends get bored and move on. As they go along day-by-day, they meet other children with special needs and form a special group of very special friends. Then, they teach each other just how special they really are and they realize that they aren’t different. They are actually quite special and unique.
Their school peers who used to laugh, point and make fun of them or just stare become so inspired by them, their kindness and the fun they are having that they want to become part of their group. This brings the children, school, community and even surrounding communities together.
Each of the special friends has a very special dream. The little group of friends and the other children in school help to make each one of those dreams come true.
This book is the first book in a series. The other books will follow the friends as they encounter bullying, abuse, drugs and all of the other issues that children are faced with today. Won’t you join me on a journey through their lives? Read and learn how these small children teach a very big lesson in love, life and humanity.
Kathy Charley
About the AuthorKathy was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. She had always wanted to be a writer. Her desire started as far back as grade school when she wrote a poise and etiquette column in her school newspaper. She went on to win two literary awards in college and had articles published in medical magazines. Teachers and writers throughout her life encouraged her to be a writer; however, she had to have a day job to pay the bills and, until modern day self-publishing, the possibility of having a publishing company or even an agent look at your book was almost nonexistent.Kathy had a diverse career, the first half in the business world and the second half in the medical field, but her true passion and desire always remained the same: to be a writer. She started a novel and motivational book for adults while working full-time, taking care of a house and yard and trying to have a family and social life. Weekends were spent trying to catch up on all of the errands for which she couldn’t find time during the week. She is now retired from the medical field and working as a part-time nanny. This position has provided her with the time necessary to devote to her writing. Instead of focusing on the two books she had already started, Kathy decided to do something that she had wanted to do since the 1980s; she wanted to help disabled children and she knew that she could do that through her writing. Thus, Special Friends with Special Needs came to fruition.Kathy wanted to write a book for children that would be fun to read, but could also be used as a teaching and developmental tool. She wanted to write a book to give children self-confidence and self-worth and teach them kindness and compassion for others. Those values are what this special book is all about. She wrote it to reach children and instill in them the values and virtues that they will need to stand strong against all of the issues that they will have to face in the world as they grow older.Kathy plans to self-publish Special Friends with Special Needs, but her main goal is to get the book into children's hospitals, schools, libraries and bookstores so that it can get into the hands of every child.

I literally searched the world to find the artist who could catch the vision and essence of the characters in my book. I found her, Claudia Gadotti, in New Zealand at claudiagadottiart.com. She will always have my heartfelt thanks and will be the artist for all of my future books.
It took an exhaustive search to find the perfect editor, one who could edit my work and, yet, keep it mine. Emily Heinlen Davis did just that. Her editing is superb. She also formatted and converted my book for online publication. I wouldn't trust my work with anyone else and she will be the one to work on all of my future books and publications. Preface
The first part of my career was spent in the business world. I have done everything from being an account representative handling other companies’ accounts to helping organize and manage a four million dollar company to owning my own companies. The last 11 years of my career, I was a cardiovascular specialist, but my true passion and desire has always been writing.
I am finally at a point in my life where I am able to concentrate on my writing. I started writing two books: a novel and a motivational book for adults to help them overcome loss and abuse. Then, I realized that I had to do something that I have wanted to do since the 80s, write a children’s book for children with special needs.
I wanted to do something to make a difference in the lives of children with special needs. I knew that I could do that through my writing. I have never written for children before, but this experience has been one of the most fulfilling and joyful experiences of my life.
I plan to have my book published, but my main goal is to market it to hospitals, schools, churches, libraries and numerous other organizations in order to get it into the hands of the ones who need it the most: children.
