    CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Jordan picked me up in his rented Jaguar (well, it seemed to be leased, actually)—a sleek silver monster that seemed to glide down U.S. 1.

I settled down, oddly comfortable in his passenger seat. I couldn’t help but say, "Well, this is a switch for a real estate showing.  I should be driving you."

Jordan just gave me one of those casually sexy shrug-and-smile combos that I’d come to look forward to.  No reason to stand on tradition.  A moment or two passed, and he added, So, if I may ask... Are you happy, Danika?

The question took me a little off guard.  It wasn’t that I hadn’t asked myself the same question; it was just that it was one I hadn’t been expecting him to ask—at least not then.  On top of that, I wasn’t sure exactly what he meant.

Jordan nodded. His eye sank into shrewd slits... it was clear he was hiding something he was thinking.

And you find that it’s a ... a good place to work? Ethically speaking?

He was watching me more closely now. I could feel it.

And I finally felt as if I knew where he was coming from—what he was really talking about.  He was talking about ... Carmen’s style of doing business.

It only just occurred to me—in ways that were deliciously undeniable—that I’d recently succumb to the same temptations.  And Jordan was the man I’d succumbed with (so many times, in that one night!)

Well, I said carefully. "I have to admit, some of the people around the office, there are things they do that I
