    PROLOGUE

The fog set against her face as she pushed the black cell phone against her cheek for the at last signal bar.

Police, what is your emergency? the dispatcher stated breaking up throughout the call.

Please help! We’re all going to die out here. Ashlei stated.

Where are you located and what kind of danger are you in? the dispatcher questioned.

We’re in Covington Cove..... Ashlei stated before she lost signal and started hearing the howl of a werewolf.

The dispatcher frantically started calling the number back as she thought the worst. With no answer, she started dispatching every spare unit.

    CHAPTER 1

    BRANDON RYALS

Rain beat down on the windshield as Brandon slowly made his way down a desolate backroad. The radio had been acting rather peculiar tonight, it sounded like there was a light layer of white noise behind the music being played. Must be the weather, he thought.

This is a shit night to be heading for Covington Cove. The things I do for you, he stated.

Yeah, but you love me so ha-ha, she gloated back to Brandon.

He looked across at his girlfriend smiling. Yeah I know.

As they drove on into the storm he began to notice little things that were somewhat out of place. For instance, when they crossed the old iron bridge it felt as if someone was watching them from the far side. Just nerves nothing else, he assured himself. He resolved to think nothing of it; that is until he saw a white scarf tied to the railing. Well that’s strange, he thought.

Hey, what’s with the radio, there is so much static! his girlfriend asked.

I have no idea, must be the weather, he told her.

How much further till we get there? she asked.

Well I’m not really sure, maybe an hour, maybe more since this weather seems to be getting worse.

That’s when the radio went silent. Before either of them could protest, a blast of static came through. Quickly grabbing the volume control, Brandon twisted it to the left, killing the radio.

Well, that was weird, his girlfriend snapped.

Yeah, grab the cd case, he instructed her.

It’s in the back, you know, the trunk, Miranda said sarcastically.

Shit ok try the radio again, Brandon told her.

Luckily it worked, though there was still that annoying layer of white noise.

Hey, so why are we going to this place again? Brandon asked.

It’s supposed to be a really cool place, supposedly they did some sort of testing back in the day, Miranda explained.

    You mean military? he asks.

    That’s what I heard, anyway.

So what are we talking, like X-Files shit here? he queried.

Maybe. Why, you worried, Mulder? she joked.

Not at all, Scully. Brandon laughed.

That’s when it happened, before either of them could react the car hit a slick spot and hydroplaned off the road. Brandon was knocked unconscious, unaware that Miranda had been thrown from the vehicle. Lying there in a daze, he slowly regained consciousness. Seeing the open passenger door and the blood on the dash moved him into action.

    MIRANDA, Brandon screamed.

Over here, my darling. He heard her calm voice.

Turning in confusion, he realized too late that that wasn’t her voice. There by the rear tire was his unmoving girlfriend. A stranger leaned over her.

She seems to have suffered a horrible accident, I do not believe she will survive, the stranger said.

Wait, what the fuck?! Who are you and what have you done? Brandon exclaimed.

Slowly she stood, turning to face him with a smile upon her face.

You know who I am silly boy, you have been reading about me for the last two years. She held out her hand and said, Here, I think she would want you to have this.

Looking down at her outstretched hand, Brandon saw the still beating heart of his girlfriend. Screaming, he turned to run as she threw the heart behind her.

You can run all you want, boy, but you are mine, the figment shrills.

A few miles down the road, he saw a driveway. Turning toward it, he headed into the darkness, praying there was a house. Moments later, he stood inside a small cabin. Phone; he knew he must find a phone. That is when he heard it.

What the fuck is that? Brandon screamed as the glass shattered.

He looked around for whatever it was that had come through the glass. Slowly, he moved toward the window. He stopped as the smell of copper filled the air. That’s when he heard her; a creature born from darkness.

Hello, my love. I knew eventually our paths would cross again.

Slowly he turned to face her, coming face to face with his darkest fear. Lilith, the first bride of Adam, the mother of all things terrible and vile that crawl upon the earth.

You’re not real, no fucking way, he screamed.

Yes, my dear, I am very much real and I have come for what is mine.

Before Brandon could say a word, the room was bathed in darkness. The last thing he heard was her laughter before only his screams filled the darkness.

Hours later, Brandon was found slumped over in the driver’s seat. The state trooper that found him called out for EMS as he looked for any sign that he may have been traveling with a companion. What he saw next would haunt him for years to come. By the rear passenger side laid the body of a young woman that appeared to have had her heart torn from her chest.

Quickly radioing for backup, the trooper returned to the driver. That is when he noticed the blood dripping from his hands. What the hell is going on, he wondered as the lights of an approaching ambulance began to illuminate the scene?

Little did he know, the town of Covington Cove stood on the threshold of madness.

    CHAPTER 2

    SHANE BALLINGER

The days get old driving down the same highway to work for the last eleven years. Working your ass off to provide for your family and while Shane had success when he first started and found his way up the chart of progress and raises, it came to a sudden crash.

Shane soon crumbled and went downhill with his company after filing a written complaint towards the CEO of the company by being transferred to a lowly job and stuck in a room by himself with not a person to speak to but only the annoying buzzing sound his machine put off for eight hours of the day.

Just as with some people in life, it can be easy to reach a breaking point from the reality of the world and the struggles in trying to only better yourself and the weight on your shoulders for doing your very best to achieve goals and provide for your family and the same held true for Shane on a day that he collapsed at work.

Hey babe, how was your day? Kelly greeted Shane with as he walked through the door.

Not good at all, hon, Shane mumbled.

Are you all right? You look a little pale, Kelly inquired.

No I am not all right and in fact I am fucking tired of the same old bullshit every damn day at work or wondering how we are going to pay this or that, he preached.

Things will get better, just stay positive. We are trying the best that we can, Kelly calmly stated.

The best that we can? How can you say that, hon? Every time we pay one bill for the phone, then our cable is shut off. Then we pay that bill and sacrifice our phone for a month. I fucking collapsed at work today and it was embarrassing as hell. I hate my god damn job! Shane screamed in frustration.

What do you mean you collapsed? she asked in a voice of concern.

I mean I was standing there at the door of my shit hole waiting for the lunch bell to ring and I felt a hot flash go through my body and then lost my balance and passed out. I don't think anyone noticed and I was only out for a few minutes, but I can't take it anymore, babe, he cried.

You need to make a doctor appointment, she suggested.

So we can have another bill that we can't afford? Shane replied sarcastically.

If you don't make an appointment then I will make one for you. You can't let the stress of life get the best of you, Kelly replied, concerned for her husband.

I'll make an appointment. I am a big boy and don't need you to do that as you do enough for our family. I just want a break or vacation. When was the last time just you and I were able to go on a trip? Shane asked.

It is hard for us to, as we have kids and bills, but I promise you one day we will be able to that, hon, Kelly sincerely mentioned.

From that point, Shane had heard enough and went to the refrigerator to grab a cold beer, which was something he did about every single day after work. He sat at the kitchen table for nearly an hour and by the time he was on beer three, he told his wife that if the two of them were not able to just take even a short break over the weekend or the following weekend, that there would be a good chance that he would walk out of his job and call it quits.

Shane knew if all else failed,
