STORY SYNOPSIS
Twenty-four year old Anna Donaldson is young, beautiful, and moving up in life. She's even finally been offered her dream job, as a fashion writer at a nationally-known magazine. Anyone on the outside looking in, would say that everything was perfect in the gorgeous Anna's world. But, for Anna, the abuse she'd endured at the hands of her ex-boyfriend has left her afraid to love again.
When she meets the very sexy, green-eyed billionaire CEO Kevin Foster, it's almost love-at-first-sight for Kevin. But will he be able to show Anna that he's the man who will always love and protect her? Will he be able to convince her to give him her heart?
CHAPTER ONE
Kevin Foster rang the doorbell of the stately Mediterranean-style house for the fourth time, still with no answer. He grimaced. Open up Drake. It's me...Kevin.
Seconds later, he pulled out his cellphone. He frowned as he speed-dialed his best friend's number. He was surprised as hell that Drake answered on the first ring.
Kevin shook his head. I'm outside at your front door, Man. You told me to meet you here tonight.
He paused for only a moment. So we could shoot a few rounds of pool and knock back some beers...just like old times. Remember?
Drake frowned into the phone. He had honestly forgotten about the get-together with Kevin. Since his break-up with his girlfriend two days earlier, he was forgetting a lot of things. The only reason he had answered his phone was that he'd thought it was her calling.
Drake shook his head and made his way to the front door to let Kevin in.
Kevin took one look at Drake and frowned. Man, you look like hell. What's wrong?
Fifteen minutes later, after Drake had given Kevin all the details on the break-up with his girlfriend, Regina—who was consequently pregnant with Drake's baby—Kevin frowned.
Kevin placed his hand encouragingly on Drake's shoulder and gave it a manly squeeze. You know you sound crazy, right? And that you should go makeup with your woman?
Drake shook his head. That'll be a cold day in hell.
***
Twenty-four year old Anna Donaldson sat behind her desk at HML Publications and groaned inwardly. She was a writer for Houston Modern Ladies Magazine. The production floor had gotten almost every one of the changes that she’d made to the August issue of the fashion section completely wrong.
She placed her hand on her desk phone—to give the manager of the division a ring. She needed to get the problem corrected ASAP.
The minute her fingers touched the hard, cold plastic, the device began buzzing. In other words, she had an incoming call.
She sighed and picked up the receiver. Good afternoon, this is Ms. Donaldson speaking. How can I help you today?
A deep, sexy-sounding, masculine voice came over the line. Ms. Donaldson...you don’t know me, but I’m a friend of Dr. Drake Washington—
He paused for only a moment, then continued. —the guy your sister, Regina, was engaged to.
He grimaced. At least up until a few weeks ago.
Anna frowned. She was sure that any friend of Dr. Drake Washington was no friend of hers. The asshole had dumped her older sister—right after he’d found out she was pregnant with his child.
Anna’s voice held no warmth when she said, Okay, and what are you calling me for?
He didn’t blame her for being irritated. What Drake had done to her sister had been wrong. Well, I’ll officially introduce myself first—the name’s Kevin, Kevin Foster.
He paused for but a moment. And the reason for my call is...I think if we work as a team, we can get Drake and Regina back together—where they belong.
She was hot by now. Back together?! What the hell do you mean by that?! My sister is better off without your friend. He finds out she’s pregnant, then breaks off their engagement! My sister is as loyal as they come! There’s no fucking way she’s not carrying Dr. Washington’s child...it’s his baby. He’s a complete asshole—
At that point, Kevin cut her off. He was smiling gently on his end of the phone. He hadn't met Anna before. But, he liked
