    To the reader

§ The story of redemption, started, way back, before the foundation of the world. It runs through the entire Bible from Genesis, and almost literally jumps from verse to verse to finally end in the Book of Revelations: as it is written, ‘in the volume of the Book it is written of me’. This is the ultimate love story of all love stories ever. The last Adam, Jesus Christ, rescues His Bride; the Church (His Eve), by paying the ransom in His own Blood while at the same time crushing the head of the serpent, as was prophesied.

Every attempt was made to make this book as enlightening and complete as possible, and yet very easy-reading.

It will take more than an ¹exegesis of the entire Bible to completely cover the story of redemption. This is not my aim, but every effort has been made to produce a study as in-depth as possible.

Every biblical theme and topic is covered in the redemption story. These include, just to mention a few; the sin-question, salvation, the new birth, divine healing, the rapture, our glorified condition, the New Jerusalem, the New Heaven and New Earth and, needless to say, the list is endless.

There are specific desired outcomes expected from the author. My desire is that the book will cause you to stop, think on your ways, take stock of your life and make the most important decision you’ll ever make in this mortal life, i.e. turn your life over to Jesus Christ and be born again.

Nobody experiences life in exactly the same manner as the next person does. They might have similar experiences, and yet they’ll perceive the world differently. God orders our footsteps so different that each one has his or her own personal experiences. These different life experiences result in different ²perceptions of the world around us, resulting in a ³paradigm or mindset completely different from the next person.

God, knowing the beginning from the end, deals with us according to the path of life He has chosen for each individual. I hope and pray that this topic will unfold in a very personal way to you, and that it will address the real you inside of you.

It took a green bush burning, and not being consumed by the fire, to get Moses to turn aside. This created an opportunity for God to talk to him. It took a strong man wrestling, through the night with Jacob, to get his attention. This changed his walk and also his name from Jacob (a supplanter) to Israel (a prince with God). A blinding light, the Pillar of Fire, called Saul of Tarsus to a halt. This led to his conversion and made him the greatest Apostle in History. These personal experiences all culminated in God calling these men to His purpose and His plan in His season and in His time.

This book is a very extensive effort because the story of redemption is the entire Bible. There is no topic that has been or will be covered in the future that cannot be placed under the umbrella of The Redemption Story. I have tried to cover every possible angle, but as I mentioned earlier on: It is unachievable.

This book reflects messages I preached when I was a lay minister. I must, however, extend this topic in a second edition of the book. While scanning through this book, I realized that there is still a great deal more that I need to include in the book as well as certain chapters that I need to revisit. God willing, the second edition will appear soon. Much of the Redemption Story is covered under other topics: see Other books by the author at the back of this book.

My sincere prayer is that, through this book, God will grant to each reader their personal burning bush experience, wrestling angel, or encounter with the Pillar of Fire.

    Overview

§ The redemption story started before the foundation of the world, when the Self-existent One, El, Eloah, ⁴Elohim had the desire to express His ⁵attributes.

In Him was to be God, Father, Saviour, Redeemer and Healer.

To redeem means to release on receipt of a ransom or to deliver by paying a price (Scofield). Redeem also means to restore by paying a ransom.

Webster says the word restore means: "to bring back to the former owner; or to bring back to a former state or condition."

Some of the Scriptural references to this effect are:

Galatians 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Matthew 20:28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many.

Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Hosea 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

§ There are two aspects to redemption we need to deal with, namely, the paying of a ransom and the restoration of the original state or condition.

When Jesus Christ gave Himself a ransom for many, it was to bring us back to our former owner, place, and state or condition. Back to the beginning. Back to Eden in a glorified body like His own glorious body.

    Who is this former owner?
