About this ebook

Mr. Grimm wants his daughter back. Raven kidnapped Angelica over eighteen years ago. The vampire ruler holds her as hostage, blackmailing Grimm to do his bidding with the threat of ‘turning’ her.

Mr. Grimm has witnessed an event. He believes with the help of Azur, the fire demon and Cody, the shape shifter, he might finally rescue his daughter. The team of three must travel through the many portals of The Realms; through the land of the Yeti, across the sands of the Pharaohs and into the stronghold of the Minotaur.

But, will the rescue of Angelica mean the death of one of Cody’s pack? Simone has been left alone, unprotected.

    Prologue

I am not a fan of formula type books. I didn’t want the Shifting books to be ‘those books where the shifter always saves the girl.’

With that in mind, I asked Drew Avera, one of my fellow authors in the Twin Cities Series, if I could borrow his character, Mr. Grimm, for an adventure with Cody and his friends.

I hope you find this book a refreshing change and look forward to the next one when we will see yet another view of The Realms and the characters that inhabit it.

    The Wizard’s Shop

    Cody in The Realms

    Present Day

I just want to reiterate, the wizard repeated, that I do not know what this will do to your face when you shift to your wolf form.

I don’t care, Artemis. I want them gone, I said.

    Very well.

Artemis and I already had this conversation. He whistled to his fairy co-workers and they descended from their birdhouse-type homes in the tree growing through the corner of the shop.

He hummed quietly as they danced across my forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. This was my plan to get rid of my acne. I might be a dead shape shifter, but that didn’t mean I had to live with acne the rest of my ‘dead’ life.

The whole dead thing is hard to explain so I won’t go into it here. Suffice to say I was waiting to be judged in the midlands between heaven and hell when I decided The Realms would be better than hell, which was where I was sure I was headed once the powers that be judged me. So I shifted my human ass into my powerful wolf self and made a mad dash. I just broke through the gate before the Retrieval Unit could catch up with me.

My name is Cody and I’m a half-breed shape shifter living in The Realms. It’s a magical place between Minneapolis and St. Paul where all the creatures humans think are mystical, paranormal or downright unbelievable really live.

I met the wizard a while back when he helped me heal from a pretty bad beating I took from a werewolf and in my own defense I must say the guy caught me off guard while in my wolf form. The werewolf was in his very large human form with steel toed boots which he used to great advantage. Well, that is neither here nor there, I should have killed him, but my girl, Simone, was present at the time and it just wouldn’t have been right to do that in front of her. Let’s just say I took care of the problem later.

Anyway, Simone and my best friend Pete brought me here, and the Wiz and his fairies went to work. Artemis, that’s the wizard’s real name, was nice enough not to tell my girl and my best bud that I was not Scar, the wolf they thought they were caring for, but really a shifter. My secret remained a secret. My girl and my friend still think I am an ungainly sixteen year old with a permanent case of bed-head and a bad case of acne. Which is why I am here today. I am going to get rid of this acne if it kills me.

Well, it won’t kill me, but the Wiz does think it might leave bald patches on my furry wolf face. He has promised that if Simone brings me in thinking I have mange he will administer something soothing and assure her I do not have the very contagious disease and am just allergic to something or other. I don’t want her being afraid to touch me. I couldn’t live without her touch. She loves me. So what if it’s only when I’m in my wolf form?

    Raven’s Mansion

    Mr. Grimm in The Realms

    Present Day - Morning

    Get out!

This statement was followed by a backhand that sent me flying across the room to crash into the stone wall at my back. A backhand from anyone else and I would have stood my ground with the other guy spitting out teeth from my return punch. But, a backhand from Raven was like getting hit by a dump truck. I Hate That God Damned Vampire! And I mean that in every word of the statement.

I picked myself up. I glared at him as I wiped the blood from my nose and lip.
