Over the next few days, it appeared that Wendy would pull out of her depression. A sense of normalcy gradually began to emerge. At least we were talking to each other, and even had sex a couple of times. Then, without warning, another shot to the gut and knee to the groin.

Wendy came in, looking excited, and said, I just heard from Ron. He’s coming back into town this week, and wanted to know if we want to get together.

She looked so happy and excited when she delivered that bombshell. I had no idea that she had given him her contact information. When she saw my face darken, she realized that I didn’t share her excitement. I had been in denial, hoping that we were over that mid-life crises, and could get on with our private lives; alone.

Unless you don’t want to, she added quickly, looking down.

I knew that she would be unhappy. Hell, she would probably see him behind my back anyway. She hadn’t shown much hesitancy in doing that sort of thing.
