IT WAS A rare night that Claire had no clients at the bed and breakfast. It had been really busy since she started putting more thought into her marketing. Since she’d started with the motorcycle tourism sites she’d gotten quite a few new clients. She was actually quite surprised that most of them did not fit her perceptions of motorcyclists. There were lots of singles but there were also quite a few couples that liked the idea of staying somewhere that was motorcycle friendly and where they would not be judged by their mode of transportation and they really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and sitting around her outside fire pit listening to music. Smaller towns, like the ones they preferred to stop at in their travels, were often closed minded and thought that everyone on a motorcycle must be part of a gang.

Since her initial forays into web marketing had gone well, Claire had since branched out to do some social media marketing. She started a Facebook page and invited all of her clients to go and like it. It turned out that word of mouth was pretty powerful and she found the 'likes' on her page growing quickly. She had also heard that Instagram could be good and what could be easier than posting a couple pictures each day? Claire soon found herself busier than she had ever imagined she could be. Some weekends she was totally booked up and had to turn away visitors. Maybe extra accommodation on her land wasn't such a pipe dream, after all.

But this Tuesday night, she had the house to herself and Lana was coming over for a well-deserved girl’s night in. Lana promised to bring the movies if Claire provided the food. And, of course, they were each bringing a bottle of wine.

Claire heard the doorbell ring at exactly 8 pm. Lana was always right on time.

It didn't take long before they were settled in the living room with a movie on and an array of Claire’s delicious snack food in front of them. And, full glasses of wine, of course. They started off watching one of the chick flicks that Lana had chosen. It was a romantic comedy that they had both been looking forward to seeing. They watched for about half an hour but soon they started talking and the movie was more or less forgotten.

Yes, it has been really busy around here lately, Claire said.

And has that been good for you?

Oh yes, you bet. The bed and breakfast is looking like it will definitely be a financially stable business this year.

Lana smirked. You know that is not what I meant.

Oh, you mean have I been getting some action? Claire laughed with her.

Yes!

Ok, I admit that the increased business has brought in some interesting and attractive men. So, yes, I’ve been having some fun.

Tell, tell... who and how many?

Well, I am not going to tell you that! You’ll think I’ve turned into a nympho!

Lana shook her head. You know me better than that. I think that if you’re free to do what you want – and you are – you should do whatever and whoever you want to!

Well, no worries there. I have had some great experiences. The nice thing is that the men that I’ve been with understand that there’s no commitment. There are no promises or hurt feelings. They are fun and interesting and really good company. Friends with benefits. Works quite well.

There you go then. Nothing to be ashamed of.

They watched the movie for a few more minutes before Lana said, And what about Michael?

Well, I haven’t heard from him lately. I guess he’s busy. But the last time he was here was so strange.

What do you mean? What kind of strange? Lana asked.

Well, he was kind of all over the place. He’d be passionate and all into the moment and then it was almost like he was sulking and he left like there was something wrong. No discussion. So cold and distant too.

Do you think he’s developed feelings?

I wondered about that, too. But if he had feelings for me the last time he was here he didn't want me to know about them. He talked less than usual and he wasn’t exactly open about what was going through his head. It was strange, confusing and eventually quite upsetting. That’s all I can say really.
