About this ebook
Paula, the fresh faced social worker at the Manors Nursing home, is jilted when her Amish hunk, lover, marries his second cousin. More than a love story, MANORVILLE II explores the religious beliefs of its characters: such as the distraught Professor, who has lost his manuscript, RELIGION THE GREAT HOAX; the orderly who prays for the poor man's soul, and the assistant who the Amish have cast out for being gay. The story follows many of the characters found in the first MANORVILLE book -- What happens to the survivors of the flood, like Lulu Belle, the world’s oldest prostitute or Sadie who likes living with the Amish.

Manorville II - Sally Hart
BACK COVER
… did have a chance to look at your book... fascinating... where you explain how a religion can begin... was going to read about the Cargo Cult, but didn't have the time.
The Professor vigorously nodded his head, The Cargo Cult, now everyone should know about the Cargo Cult,
he shifted into his pedantic mode.
"It was several years after the Second World War when an anthropologist found a village in one of the remote Pacific Islands. Now these primitive people had developed a strange religion. It seems that during the War planes had landed on the Island, and the natives witnessed all sorts of wondrous things coming out of what they called the 'Belly of the Flying Beast.' Well the soldiers were only too willing to share their goodies with the natives. But, all good things must come to an end, and the planes left along with their cargoes of treasures. The natives were very upset at their loss, and to resolve the issue a new religion was born.
The elders decreed that a replica of the Flying Beast be built. So, with branches and twigs an effigy was made, complete with wings, fuselage, nose, tail and propeller, then covered with green moss to duplicate the camouflage. The natives would circle the plane, chanting and praying for the return of their Flying Beast with the bountiful belly.
The Professor paused, "You see, myths, cults, superstitions, religions... whatever, all arise to fill a need, be it good crops, more babies, rain, or in the case of the natives, even Hershey bars, Coca-Cola, and most of all, packs of Camels.

CHAPTER ONE
.
Victoria?
I stared in amazement.
Got a new dentist in town,
Ron spoke up. Gave Mom implants.
Implants. My mind whirled, Guess she won't be carrying her dentures around in her brunch coat pocket anymore... just slipping them into her mouth when decorum dictates.
Oh,
I stepped into my old office trying to adjust to a new reality. Ron sat at his desk, Victoria at hers and at my old desk sat an effeminate young man.
Come in! Come in!
Victoria motioned me to the guest chair by my old desk. Want you to meet Arnold, Arnie Miller, our new social worker... the patients just love him.
A boyish face smiled in my direction.
So glad your back,
Victoria and Ron said in unison. Really need you.
Oh,
I couldn't stop staring at Victoria.
Victoria smiled a brilliant white smile. Just lost a few pounds and had a little work done,
her hand floated to a flawless complexion tight to the touch.
You look wonderful!
I gushed. Not like the first time we met when Victoria was often mistaken for one of the patients.
Got a new boyfriend,
Ron said, almost a sneer. Yeah got her eye on old man Woods. You remember, Woods Funeral Parlor? If he caves, Mom will own the whole town, except for Levi's properties, of course.
I couldn't help staring at the new Victoria who used to be as wide as she was tall. Still only 4'11 but now a trim size 6. Only the drooping skin from her upper arm
bat wings" to give away her former size. Her white hair once dyed black was now a soft platinum blond with just enough of the white showing through to give a soft natural look. Now Victoria could easily pass for an attractive fifty year old. Diet, cosmetic surgery, and fantastic dental work, erasing the effects of her long years struggling to build the Manorville Nursing Homes.
Hope you're back to stay,
Victoria interrupted my brief mental critique. I have a job for you, need a procedures manual.
Yeah, now that we've taken all those cases from the State Hospitals, the government is getting picky about us following a bunch of new guidelines. Need a procedures manual,
Ron concluded.
Told Victoria, I would do it," Arnie spoke up for the first time – never mind that he probably didn't even know what a procedures manual was.
But Victoria shushed him. "Now Paula, I want you to be in charge of the new Social Services Department. You'll supervise Arnie with the patient counseling. He'll be your assistant. Want Arnie to concentrate on keeping the Medicaid forms up-to-date and want you to see the difficult patients and write that Damn Procedures Manual.
With that Victoria rose to her full stature, her designer dress hugging a trim body, and retired to the small room off the kitchen – her mohair sofa replaced by a velour Lazy Boy proportioned to her height. There Victoria reclined letting her feet elevate – it was only her feet that had not been a part of her make over – still tender and enlarged from years of hard work and a lifetime of obesity. There are some things you just can't change.
Although Victoria was owner and founder of the Manor Nursing Homes, Ron, her thirtyish year old son, had been raised in the business and did much of the day to day running of the homes.
You look confused,
Ron prodded.
I felt confused. It had only been eighteen months since leaving this flood torn facility, yet it felt like a life time ago. So much has changed,
I responded. Victoria is still the same though, lets you know what she wants and expects you to do it. I thought Victoria might want to know what I've been doing the last year and a half... you know... what did I learn in school and why I decided to come back to the Manors.
"Oh, you know, Mom's always got a lot on her mind. She's been
