    A Bad Overbite You

    Can Count On

Hello. My name is Bella. I run a detective agency in Palm Beach, Florida. You have heard of Palm Beach? Well, then, you have probably heard of my client, the fabulously wealthy India Hays.

She and I are out for a day of sunshine. We are off to lunch at Minnie’s. Rene, our chef, is on vacation. In his place, Marcus is at the wheel, and of course Gino and DiMarcus are with us. Bodyguards, they are like family. Minnie’s has a bodyguard and nanny section for employees and patrons of her restaurant.

India has a lovely Gucci bag today. She is wearing Versace Bright Crystal perfume. I am wearing Marc Jacob’s Daisy. She is wearing a two-tone Victoria Beckham shift, black Fendi pumps, and a pair of Harry Winston eight-carat diamond earrings.

Today at Minnie’s, we are having duck l’orange with Israeli couscous and green beans. Fresh-baked multigrain breads with a delightful garden salad will complete the menu. I am requesting Panama Blue water. It comes from Cero Azul in the Chagras National Rain Forest in Panama.

Minnie’s is a small restaurant favored by our Palm Beach set. Minnie Farb is the owner, and she knows how the pecking order works here. No strangers or newcomers are seated at the front of the restaurant. Tables near windows are reserved for only the richest families. Minnie’s reads like the social registry. The Goldsteins’ bankruptcy caught everyone by surprise, but not our Minnie. Carol Goldstein is now in the back somewhere. India’s table is still at the front windows. Thank goodness!

Tablecloths and fresh flowers on the tables are de rigueur at Minnie’s. The table settings are always sterling silver with the best Meissen or Herend or royal Worchester or Wedgewood available. The glasses are Baccarat or Waterford.
